Description

Engineering work is taking place between Patchway and Severn Tunnel Junction from Saturday 11 until early morning on Monday 20 April, closing all lines.

As a result of this, the following alterations will apply:

CrossCountry:

  • The 05:20 Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central service will not run. 
  • The 07:00 and 17:05 services between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff Central will be amended to start / terminate at Bristol Temple Meads.

  • You should use Great Western Railway rail replacement buses to complete your journey between Bristol Parkway and Newport.

    Great Western Railway:

    Saturday and Sunday:

    Trains between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will divert to start / terminate Bristol Parkway. They will regain normal route at Filton Abbey Wood.

    The majority of trains between Cardiff Central and Taunton (some beyond) will start / terminate Bristol Temple Meads. Except where shown below trains between Cardiff Central and Bristol Temple Meads will not run.

    Additional Saturday alterations:

    The 21:00 Cardiff Central to Exeter St Davids, and the 22:00 and 22:47 Cardiff Central to Bristol Temple Meads will divert to start Bristol Parkway before regaining normal route at Filton Abbey Wood.

    The 05:46 Exeter St Davids to Cardiff Central and 16:50 Penzance to Cardiff Central will divert after Filton Abbey Wood to Bristol Parkway.

    An additional train will run at 06:40 from Bristol Temple Meads to Bristol Parkway.

    Additional Sunday alterations:

  • The 08:07 Weymouth to Cardiff Central and 08:48 Westbury to Cardiff Central will divert after Filton Abbey Wood to Bristol Parkway
  • The 08:43 and 12:54 (departing 13:04) Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central will divert after Filton Abbey Wood to Bristol Parkway.
  • The 16:36 Cardiff Central to Brighton will start from Bristol Temple Meads.
  • The 21:25 and 23:15 Cardiff Central to Bristol Temple Meads, also 22:15 Cardiff Central to Warminster will divert to start Bristol Parkway, regaining normal route at Filton Abbey Wood.
  • Trains between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will be amended to start / terminate at Bristol Parkway.
  • Trains between Cardiff Central and Taunton will be amended to start / terminate at Bristol Temple Meads.
  • Trains between Cardiff Central and Bristol Temple Meads will not run.
  • The 21:00 between Cardiff Central and Exeter St David's will be amended to start / terminate at Bristol Parkway.
  • The 21:30 and 22:30 Cardiff Central to Bristol Temple Meads will be amended to start / terminate at Bristol Parkway.
  • Trains between London Paddington and Cardiff Central / Swansea will be reduced to an hourly service and will be diverted to run via Gloucester. These services will not call at Bristol Parkway.
  • Most services between London Paddington and Reading will be re-timed to depart 30 minutes earlier than normal
  • There will be an hourly train service between London Paddington and Bristol Parkway via Reading and Swindon.
  • Most services departing Swansea towards Newport will be re-timed to depart 40-50 minutes earlier than normal. 
  • The 18:18 London Paddington to Swansea service will call additionally at Didcot Parkway.
  • The 23:32 London Paddington to Cardiff Central service will terminate at Bristol Temple Meads. Customers should use replacement road transport onto Newport.

  • Monday - Thursday:

    The following additional services will run:

  • 05:15 Taunton to Cardiff Central.
  • 05:58 Westbury to Cardiff Central.

  • Tuesday - Friday:

  • The 21:21 Bristol Parkway to Portsmouth & Southsea service will be amended to start from Bristol Temple Meads.
  • The 05:28 London Paddington to Swansea service will terminate at Bristol Temple Meads.
  • The 04:08 Swansea to London Paddington service will additionally call at Gloucester and Didcot Parkway.
  • The 05:53 Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington will not call at Gloucester.

  • Wednesday - Friday:

    An additional service will operate at 00:21 between Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway.

Rail replacement buses will operate as follows:

  • between Newport and Bristol Parkway (40 minute express service).
  • between Newport and Bristol Parkway calling at Severn Tunnel Junction and Patchway.

Some late evening buses may be extended to run to / from Cardiff Central.
