Description

On Tuesday 28 January, a freight train derailed at Eastleigh. This has resulted in some lines being blocked as significant repairs are needed to fully reopen the railway through the station.

Disruption is expected to continue until Saturday 29 February.

Advice for Great Western Railway customers:

Monday to Friday - The 19:30 Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour service will be diverted between Southampton and Fareham, not calling at Southampton Airport Parkway, Eastleigh, Hedge End or Botley. As a result of this, the train will run slightly earlier than usual between Fareham and Portsmouth.

The 21:23 Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol Temple Meads service will be diverted between Fareham and Southampton, not calling at Eastleigh or Southampton Airport Parkway.

Saturdays - The 21.23 Portsmouth Harbour to Westbury service will be diverted between Fareham and Southampton Central, not calling at Eastleigh or Southampton Airport Parkway.

Advice for Southern customers:

Trains will be unable to run to/from Eastleigh or Southampton Airport Parkway.

Southern are advising their customers to check journey planners prior to departure for the most up to date information.

You may use your tickets, at no extra cost, on South Western Railway services between Southampton and London. However, please note, South Western Railway are severely impacted due to this incident.

Advice for South Western Railway customers:

Trains from Basingstoke towards Southampton Central will NOT call at Eastleigh. Trains will be able to call at Eastleigh in the London bound direction from Southampton ONLY.

Passengers travelling to Eastleigh from the London / Basingstoke / Winchester direction will need to travel on a Portsmouth Harbour / Portsmouth & Southsea via Basingstoke service, or alternatively to Southampton Airport Parkway and return back on a northbound service. This may extend your journey by up to 30 minutes at Southampton Airport Parkway.

Passengers at Eastleigh wishing to travel towards Southampton Central / Bournemouth / Weymouth should travel to Winchester and circulate for a service back south.

Trains from Romsey to Salisbury via Chandlers Ford will also be unable to call at Eastleigh.

There will also be some additional peak time services that will be unable to call at Eastleigh, or may be cancelled throughout.

Please note that on services from Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo via Eastleigh and Basingstoke, some coaches may not be accommodated in the platform.

  • On 12 coach trains only the front 9 coaches will be on the platform
  • On 10 coach trains only the front 7 coaches will be on the platform

Rail replacement buses will run as follows:

  • Winchester to Eastleigh, calling at Shawford
  • Eastleigh to Southampton Airport Parkway
  • Chandlers Ford to Eastleigh

Additional information:

Temporary repairs to the railway through Eastleigh have been made to enable a partial resumption of services through the station, but not all services are able to call at the station.
