Description

High Output Ballast Work is taking place between Gidea Park and Shenfield, closing 2 out of 4 lines.

Greater Anglia:

Trains to and from London Liverpool Street via Shenfield will need to travel at a reduced speed past the engineering work, which means journey times will be extended by up to 15 minutes.

Additionally, the 21:35 London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria, and the 21:10 Southend Victoria to London Liverpool Street services will not run.

TfL Rail:

After 21:00, some trains towards Shenfield will be amended to terminate at Gidea Park. Trains from Shenfield will be retimed by up to 4 minutes.

You can plan your journey using the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner

Project Information:

Over time, ballast wears down and becomes rounded. The pieces of ballast then fit together less easily, reducing the ballast’s effectiveness.

Ballast cleaning removes this worn ballast, screens it and replaces the ‘dirty’ worn ballast with new angular ballast.
