Description

This is an exciting time for Bristol’s railway. New tracks, improved stations and additional train services are just some of the changes around the corner that will bring better journeys for passengers throughout the region.

For eight weeks, from Saturday 10 July to Friday 3 September Network Rail are changing the track layout at a major junction on the approach to Bristol Temple Meads.

This work will affect train services to varying degrees over the eight weeks with timetable alterations, diversions and rail replacement services in place on some routes.

How will this affect my journey?

Saturday 10 July to Friday 6 August

Trains will run between:

  • London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads or beyond
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway (shuttle service Monday to Friday only) 
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton (with some services running via Weston-super-Mare).
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Weymouth via Bath Spa (except Sundays)
 

CrossCountry and South Western Railway services will also run via Bristol Temple Meads during these dates but may have extended journey times.

Trains on the following routes will be different:

  • Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour – services will call at Bristol Parkway instead of Bristol Temple Meads
  • Gloucester and Bristol Temple Meads – services will divert after Bristol Parkway to Cardiff Central instead
  • Severn Beach Line – services will run between Lawrence Hill and Severn Beach (except Sundays)
 

There will be no direct trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central – customers can still travel via Bristol Parkway or Filton Abbey Wood instead.

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway (supplementing train services, and calling at all stations)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Severn Beach (calling at all stations) - Sundays only
 

Saturday 7 August

Trains will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare/Taunton

Trains on the following routes will be different:

  • London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads or beyond – services will terminate at Bath Spa
  • Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour – services will call at Bristol Parkway instead of Bristol Temple Meads
  • Gloucester and Weymouth – services won’t call at Bristol Temple Meads
 

There will be no direct trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central – customers can still travel via Bristol Parkway or Filton Abbey Wood instead.

Buses will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Avonmouth / Severn Beach.

CrossCountry services will use an alternative route between Bristol Parkway and Taunton (not calling at Bristol Temple Meads) extending normal journey times.

South Western Railway trains will terminate and restart at Bath Spa.

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa (direct and calling at all stations)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway (direct and calling at all stations)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Stapleton Road
 

Sunday 8 August

No trains will call at Bristol Temple Meads.

Trains on the following routes will be different:

  • London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads or beyond – services will terminate at Bath Spa
  • Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour – services will run between Bath Spa and Portsmouth Harbour
  • Gloucester and Weymouth – services will run between Gloucester and Cardiff Central; trains will also run between Bath Spa and Weymouth
 

CrossCountry services will terminate at Bristol Parkway from the north or at Taunton from the south.

South Western Railway trains for Bristol Temple Meads will terminate and restart at Bath Spa.

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa (direct and calling at all stations)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway (direct)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Avonmouth / Severn Beach (calling at all stations)
  • Bristol Parkway / Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Temple Meads
 

Monday 9 to Friday 13 August

Trains will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare/Taunton

Trains on the following routes will be different:

  • London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads or beyond – services will terminate at Bath Spa
  • Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour – services will call at Bristol Parkway instead of Bristol Temple Meads
  • Gloucester and Weymouth – services won’t call at Bristol Temple Meads
  • Severn Beach Line – services will run between Lawrence Hill and Severn Beach
 

There will be no direct trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central – customers can still travel via Bristol Parkway or Filton Abbey Wood instead.

CrossCountry services will use an alternative route between Bristol Parkway and Taunton (not calling at Bristol Temple Meads) extending normal journey times.

South Western Railway trains for Bristol Temple Meads will terminate at Bath Spa.

  • Bristol Temple Meads, Lawrence Hill, Stapleton Road and Filton Abbey Wood
 

Saturday 14 to Monday 30 August

Platforms 7 and 9 - 15 will be out of use at Bristol Temple Meads.

Trains will continue to run between:

  • Cardiff Central and Taunton
  • Bristol Parkway and Weston-super-Mare
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Severn Beach
 

Train services on the following routes will also continue to run, but in a different way to normal:

  • London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads – some services won’t call at Chippenham or Bath Spa
  • Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour – calling at Bristol Parkway instead of Bristol Temple Meads
  • Gloucester and Weymouth – not calling at Bristol Temple Meads
 

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa (direct)
  • Bristol Temple Meads, Keynsham and Oldfield Park
 

CrossCountry trains will operate between Bristol Parkway and Taunton via Bristol Temple Meads but these will be reduced to hourly services

South Western Railway trains will terminate at Bath Spa, where buses replace trains to Bristol Temple Meads

Tuesday 31 August to Friday 3 September

No trains will call at Bristol Temple Meads.

Trains on the following routes will be different:

  • London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads or beyond – services will terminate at Bath Spa
  • Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour – services will call at Bristol Parkway instead of Bristol Temple Meads
  • Gloucester and Weymouth – services won’t call at Bristol Temple Meads
  • Cardiff Central and Taunton – services will run between Bedminster and Taunton
  • Bristol Parkway and Weston-super-Mare – services will run between Bedminster and Weston-super-Mare
  • Severn Beach Line – services will run between Lawrence Hill and Severn Beach
 

CrossCountry services will use an alternative route between Bristol Parkway and Taunton (not calling at Bristol Temple Meads) extending normal journey times.

South Western Railway trains for Bristol Temple Meads will terminate at Bath Spa.

Buses replace trains between:

  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa (direct)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway (direct and calling at Filton Abbey Wood)
  • Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton (direct)
  • Bedminster and Bath Spa (calling at all stations)
  • Bedminster and Bristol Parkway (calling at all stations)
