The following terms and conditions apply to this type of ticket. Please note that some tickets have restrictions on the days or times you can travel. Please check before you travel.

Terms and Conditions

Description

Season Tickets allow unlimited travel between two stations for a specified period of time. Season Tickets are usually available for periods of seven days or for any period from one month to one year.

Season Tickets offer great savings for regular travellers and where savings can usually be made even if  travelling fewer than 5 days a week. An Annual Season ticket gives offers 52 weeks' travel for the price of 40 already-discounted Weekly Season Tickets.

Availability

Purchase Location

  • Season Tickets can be bought at any staffed National Rail ticket office or on the website from the appropriate Train Company.

  • 7-Day Season Tickets can also be bought at some self-service ticket machines.

  • Season Tickets can also be bought over the telephone from some retailers.

Purchase Availability

To prevent any misuse, Season Tickets and Travelcards are not generally issued in advance, although Seasons on Smartcard and Travelcard Season on Oyster, can be issued up to 30 days in advance of the first day of validity.

To minimise inconvenience to customers, the following rules apply to Season Tickets issued on printed stock:

A Ticket may be issued:

7-Day Seasons &

Travelcards

  •  on the start date;

  • if the start date is a Monday (or a Tuesday after a Bank Holiday), the Ticket may be issued from 06:00 on the previous Sunday.

Period Seasons & Travelcards

(including Annual & Gold Cards)

  • if the start date is a Saturday, Sunday or Monday (also Tuesday after a Bank Holiday), the Ticket may be issued from 12:00 (noon) on the previous Friday;

  • if the start date is another day, the Ticket may be issued after 12:00 (noon) on the previous day.

  • over the Christmas and New Year holiday period these rules are generally relaxed. Please refer to local TOC instructions.

Where the current ticket is SURRENDERED* with NO BREAK OF CONTINUITY

A Ticket may be issued:

7-Day Seasons & Travelcards

  • if the start date is a Sunday or Monday (or Tuesday after a Bank Holiday), the ticket may be issued from 12:00 (noon) on the previous Friday.

  • if the start date is another day, the ticket may be issued after 12:00 (noon) on the previous day.

Period Seasons & Travelcards (including Annual & Gold Cards)

  •  the Ticket may be issued any time up to seven days in advance.

  • over the Christmas and New Year holiday period these rules are generally relaxed. Please refer to local TOC instructions.

Pre-booking Requirement

If buying a Season Ticket for the first time, a recent passport-type photograph for the accompanying photocard is required.

In addition, if buying a monthly or longer Season Ticket for the first time, an application form will need to be completed so that a Record Card can be held by the issuing Train Company.

Reservations Compulsory

No

No, but you can reserve a seat on many longer distance services and reservations are recommended on busy services. Please note that some train services are designated as reservation only, regardless of ticket held.

Yes

Children (Aged 5 to 15 inclusive): 50% discount.

Up to two children under five can travel free with each fare paying passenger.

Railcards

Yes

  • 16-17 Saver: 50% discount

  • Job Centre Plus Travel Discount Card: 50% discount

Retailers will publicise details of any other Season Ticket discounts.

General Conditions

Season Ticket holders' names and addresses are recorded.  You may be contacted for survey purposes about the journeys you make with your Season Ticket.

Changes To Travel Plans

If the Season Ticket held does not cover the journey in full, has been left at home or is for Standard Class accommodation when travelling in First Class, the appropriate additional ticket must be purchased at the ticket office before travel.
