A 16-17 Saver costs £30 and it'll save you 50% on Adult rail fares throughout England and Wales, and stations in Scotland served by LNER, TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains. This includes Standard   class Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Advance, and Season Tickets.

There are plenty of ways you can use your Saver, for both long and short trips. Better still you can use it anytime of the day, every day of the week.

The 16-17 Saver is available to buy for any 16 or 17 year olds, and is valid for 1-year, or until the day before your 18th birthday; whichever is earliest. Season Tickets started during the validity of the Saver to be used up to four months after you turn 18 years old.

Buying your tickets

To buy online, you will need a valid UK driving licence (full or provisional) or passport number to prove you are eligible and supply a digital ‘passport style’ photo.

Booking conditions
  1. Whenever possible, tickets for your journey should be purchased before boarding the train. You must have your Saver with you on your journey and always show the valid Saver and discounted ticket to rail staff at their request. If you do not show both the Saver and the ticket, you will be required to pay the full undiscounted Standard Single fare for your journey as if no ticket was purchased before starting the journey and in some cases a penalty fare. This does not apply if there was no ticket purchasing facilities at the station at which you began your journey e.g. if the ticket office was closed and there was no ticket machine from which you could buy a discounted ticket
  2. Discount is 50% of Adult fares
  3. 16-17 Saver does not entitle holder to Child Rate tickets, unless no option for 16-17 Saver is available at time of ticket purchase
  4. The right is reserved to revise the Terms & Conditions and availability of the 16-17 Saver. The Train Companies will endeavour to give three months' notice of any changes before they are due to come into effect.
  5. Tickets issued to the holder of the 16-17 Saver are issued subject to the National Rail Conditions of Travel and the full Terms & Conditions below. Copies of the National Rail Conditions of Travel are available from any staffed station ticket office or online at www.nationalrail.co.uk/nrcot
