Group Travel on National Rail

Most Train Companies offer discounts for groups of 3 or more people travelling together. Larger groups of 10 or more people travelling together may get additional discounts when booking tickets directly with train companies. See details below.

In addition, East Midlands Railway and ScotRail offer Groupsave on certain journeys only.

Groups of three to nine adults can get 1/3 off Off-Peak tickets when travelling together. The group must travel together at all times. No further discounts (using Railcards, for example) are available for any of the passengers. Full Terms & Conditions of Groupsave can be found here

Other Group Discounts

Transport for Wales - Small Group Day ticket

If there are three to nine of you travelling together on Transport for Wales, you can save money by buying a Small Group Day ticket which offers a 25% discount to corresponding ticket.

Valid within the Transport for Wales network after 09:30 (Off-Peak Day/Anytime Day where there is no Off-Peak Day) Monday to Friday, all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. All members of the group must travel together at all times to validate the product.

Stansted Express - Small Group product

In addition to GroupSave, Stansted Express also offers a 50% discount for groups of four adults travelling together between Stansted Airport and London. See the Stansted Express website for details.

Group Travel for Larger Groups – 10+ People

When ten or more passengers travel together as a party to the same destination, a great discount may be available. Most Train Companies offer discounted Group Travel rates but the discount, times of availability and conditions of use may vary and may require advance booking or seat reservations. Contact the appropriate Train Operating Company's Group Travel office or Customer Relations office for full details.

Group Off-Peak in London

Group Off-Peak Day Travelcards

These are only available to groups of 10 passengers or more. The group can be made up of any combination of adults and children under 16, as long as there is a minimum of 10 people in the group, who must travel together at all times (please note that children under 11 travel free on TfL's rail and bus services with an accompanied adult) including stations in Zones 7-9

The origin station on the ticket needs to be the station in the Fare Zones 1-9, that the ticket is being issued for. London Underground stations in Zones 7-9 can also be used as 'Origin' stations when issuing Group Off-Peak Day Travelcards.

Validity and purchasing

Tickets are valid for travel at anytime on weekends and Bank Holidays or from 09:30 Monday to Friday on the date shown on the ticket, and can only be issued at stations:

  • on the day of travel – from 09:30 Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays), except where trains are timed to depart at or soon after 09:30 when they may be issued before 09:30. This will normally be after the departure of the last restricted train, but where the train service operator allows they may be sold before then. Ask staff for details.
  • in advance – Tickets may be issued up to 7 days in advance of the day for which the ticket is dated. Where tickets are issued in conjunction with Advance train specific tickets to London, they may be issued up to 12 weeks in advance.

Children ( 5-15 years old)

  • On London Underground, Elizabeth line, London Buses, London Overground and London Trams' services, accompanied children under 11 travel free
  • Children with 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard travel free on National Rail
