The Spirit of Scotland Travelpass is a great way to roam across Scotland by train, coach and ferry.

Most of the services covered are included in your price, while some others offer a substantial discount.

  • Train: on all scheduled services wholly within Scotland, including to and from Carlisle and Berwick-Upon-Tweed

  • Subway: travel on Glasgow Subway is included within the Travelpass

  • Tram: travel on Edinburgh Trams services is included within the Travelpass

  • Coach - Scottish Citylink/West Coast Motors: Oban/Fort William - Inverness, Oban - Campbeltown, Kyle of Lochalsh - Uig,  Inverness - Ullapool

  • Coach - Stagecoach East Scotland: Dundee/Leuchars - St Andrews

  • Coach - Borders Buses/West Coast Motors: Melrose - Galashiels - Peebles - Edinburgh (Service X62), Carlisle - Langholm - Hawick- Galashiels - Edinburgh (Service X95)

  • Coach - Stagecoach in the Highlands: Services on the Isle of Skye (except any registered tours), Wick - John O'Groats, Thurso - John O'Groats, Thurso - Scrabster

Discounts are also available on the following services:

  • Train - Strathspey Steam Railway: 10% discount on all full standard fares.

  • Train - Keith & Dufftown Railway: 10% discount on all full standard fares.

  • Train - Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway: £1 off all full Standard fares (excl. Thomas Days Out).

  • Ferry - Northlink Ferries: 20% discount on seated Standard fares purchased on the day of sailing on the following routes: Scrabster - Stromness, Aberdeen - Lerwick, Aberdeen -Kirkwall - Lerwick

  • Ferry - Stena Line: 20% off standard foot passenger fares between Cairnryan and Belfast.  Free bus connection between Ayr Station and Cairnryan Port.

  • City Sightseeing Bus Tours: £1 off adult and concession tickets on the following tours: Edinburgh Bus Tour, City Sightseeing Glasgow, City Sightseeing Inverness.

  • Cruise - Sweeney Cruise (Loch Lomond): 20% discount on all full Standard fares.

  • Cruise - Cruise Loch Lomond: 15% discount on all full Standard fares.

  • Cruise - Jacobite Cruises (Loch Ness): 10% discount on all full Standard fares.

  • Car - Arnold Clark: 20% off car hire.

Some services operate seasonally, so customers should check before travelling

Further information

  • Spirit of Scotland Travelpasses are not subject to availability and do not need to be purchased/booked in advance.

  • Spirit of Scotland Travelpasses are valid for travel in Standard Class only. 

  • Upgrades to First Class are not available.

  • Weekday and Weekend First Supplements are not valid in conjunction with Spirit of Scotland Travelpass tickets.

  • Reservations are not required, however if travelling on a reservable route then a complimentary seat reservation should be made.

  • Reservations can be made up to 12 weeks in advance.

  • 50% discount for children aged 5-15.  Under 5's travel free.

  • Standard National Railcard discounts apply.

  • Refunds are available, subject to a £10 administration fee, for each unused ticket surrendered before the first date of travel.

  • Customers can change their travel plans, as they have unlimited travel, but they cannot change the travel validity period.

  • Customers can break their journey as they have unlimited travel.

Valid on all scheduled services wholly within Scotland, including to and Carlisle and Berwick-Upon-Tweed.

Travel is valid Monday to Friday on trains departing after 09:15 and on any service at the weekend

The restriction does not apply to customers travelling on the following routes:

  • Glasgow Queen Street - Oban/Fort William/Mallaig.

  • Inverness - Kyle /Wick/Thurso.

  • Glasgow Central - Stranraer.

  • Direct services from Lockerbie to Carlisle, Carstairs, Motherwell or Glasgow Central.

Passengers Information

When a passenger needs to self validate a Rover ticket, the date of travel should be completed in black ink using numerical values only for 'Day' and 'Month' eg 07 09 for travel on 7th September.

The Rover will need to be validated before the first journey on that day commences.
