The new National Rail app is here! Find out more about how to get it, future updates, and what you can do in the app
The new app offers all the same functions as before, but with some added extras. Our customers told us they wanted a modern app that was clearer, gave them better disruption information and helped them to buy tickets, so that is what we have been working to deliver.
Just like our new and improved website, the National Rail app provides a clearer and more contemporary experience, making it easier and quicker to find the information you need, buy the train tickets you want, and keep up to date in real time on your journey.
To find out how to get the most out of the new app, please visit our How to Use the New National Rail App page.
The National Rail app is a new and evolving product and we are listening closely to customer feedback. We want to provide the best possible experience for customers, and are constantly working to improve user experience, so keep an eye out for new, and not-so-new, additions to the app coming soon.
You can now:
select your journey with 1 click – just choose the fare you want from the options available in the Journey Planner and you are automatically progressed to the next stage
find the information you need on Live Trains with less scrolling, as departure and arrival information at the top of the page has been reduced in size
view more detailed pay as you go with contactless fare information in the Journey Planner results and ticket selection
save up to 10 favourite stations or journeys in a new menu item: My Travel
view your favourite stations and journeys, and recent stations and journeys, in Live Trains and Journey Planner
clear your recent history from Live Trains and Journey Planner
find all services that have already departed in the last 2 hours in Live Trains
view the newly renamed London Overground lines in Tube Status on the app
see calling points when all or part of the journey is made by bus
view more detailed Service Bulletins, which now fall into 1 of 4 new categories – Accessibility, Disruption, Engineering Works and Information. The bulletin types have related icons, and alerts have 3 colour-coded levels of severity: Minor (blue), Major (amber) and Severe (red)
see more Journey Planner details on each result card, meaning you need to scroll less
find and compare pay as you go fares, if applicable, for journeys more easily
buy tickets directly from Live Trains results with a simple click
Developing an app takes time, but we are committed to introducing new, and re-introducing old, features across the website and app that will allow users to:
plan an open return journey without having to specify a return date or time
see all departed services right back to the start of the day with further Live Trains enhancements
find better fare information for journeys that require more than 1 ticket
We are also working to improve the look and feel and the overall customer experience.
