New Year’s Eve Overnight Train Services From London

A number of National Rail train companies will be running additional trains after midnight on New Year’s Eve as events in London start to draw to a close

Information for any additional overnight services that will be planned to follow the end of New Year's Eve on Wednesday 31 December 2025 will be published here when confirmed.

From midnight on New Year’s Eve Tuesday 31 December 2024, into the small hours of New Year’s Day Wednesday 1 January 2025, extra services will run from some central London stations so you can journey home after the night’s excitement.

The following train operators run services from London. Some of these will be running overnight services to locations in and around London, and you can find details of the extra trains below.

Avanti West Coast

No additional services. Trains will stop running earlier than normal in the evening on New Year’s Eve, 31 December.

Chiltern Railways

The following late night timetable alterations from London Marylebone apply after midnight on New Year's Eve:

The following trains are cancelled:

  • 23:57 (Tue) London Marylebone - Aylesbury Vale Parkway

  • 00:01 London Marylebone - Oxford

  • 00:05 London Marylebone - Banbury

  • 00:10 London Marylebone - Aylesbury (via High Wycombe)

The following late night additional trains will operate:

  • 00:30 London Marylebone - High Wycombe

  • 00:40 London Marylebone - Aylesbury (via Amersham)

  • 00:45 London Marylebone - Oxford

  • 00:50 London Marylebone - Banbury

  • 01:10 London Marylebone - Aylesbury (via High Wycombe)

  • 01:40 London Marylebone - Aylesbury (via Amersham)

  • 01:45 London Marylebone - Oxford

  • 01:50 London Marylebone - Banbury

  • 02:00 London Marylebone - Aylesbury (via High Wycombe)

East Midlands Railway

No additional services have been announced.

Elizabeth line

On New Year's Eve into New Years Day, an overnight service will operate eastbound only from Stratford to Gidea Park, and westbound only from London Paddington National Rail Station to Hayes & Harlington.

No overnight service on the rest of the line (including the central section of the line and to / from Heathrow Airport).

Gatwick Express

No additional services have been announced.

Great Northern

Please ensure you plan your journey in advance on New Year's Eve, as there will be very few Great Northern trains running after midnight. Train times are available in the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Great Western Railway (GWR)

No additional services. On most routes, trains will stop running earlier than normal in the evening on New Year’s Eve, 31 December.

Greater Anglia

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

Heathrow Express

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER)

No additional services. Trains will stop running earlier than normal on New Year’s Eve.

London Northwestern Railway

Services are scheduled to run from London Euston to Milton Keynes Central until the last departure at 01:39.

London Overground

After New Year’s Eve, additional late night services will operate on some London Overground routes as follows:

Highbury & Islington - Crystal Palace / West Croydon:

The following special service will run on the Windrush line after midnight on New Year's Eve:

  • 3 trains per hour will operate between West Croydon and Highbury & Islington all night

  • 3 trains per hour will operate between Crystal Palace and Highbury & Islington all night

  • Trains will run every 10 minutes between Highbury & Islington and Sydenham (every 20 mins to / from West Croydon / Crystal Palace). Trains will continue to run until at regular intervals until the start of normal daytime services.

London Fields - Chingford / Enfield Town / Cheshunt:

There will be a special overnight service in operation on the Weaver line after midnight on New Year's Eve. Trains will start from London Fields as London Liverpool Street is closed due to engineering works.

Clapham Junction / Richmond - Stratford:

There will be a special overnight service in operation on the Mildmay line after midnight on New Year's Eve, running as follows:

  • 3 trains per hour between Clapham Junction and Stratford

  • 3 trains per hour between Richmond and Stratford

London Euston - Watford Junction:

The following additional services will run on the Lioness line after midnight on New Year's Eve:

  • 01:20 from London Euston to Queens Park, for London Underground Bakerloo line connections

  • 01:35 from Queens Park to London Euston

  • 01:55 from London Euston to Watford Junction

South Western Railway

There will be additional South Western Railway services after midnight on New Year's Eve from London Waterloo to Guildford via Woking; Kingston via Richmond; Twickenham via Wimbledon; and Woking. Train times are available in the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Southeastern

Additional late-night trains will run from London Charing Cross, London Victoria and London Bridge after midnight on New Year's Eve. Train times are available in the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

There will be no trains from London Waterloo East station after 23:30 on New Year's Eve.

Southern

Please ensure you plan your journey in advance on New Year's Eve, as there will be very few Southern trains running after midnight. Train times are available in the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Stansted Express

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

Thameslink

Please ensure you plan your journey in advance on New Year's Eve, as there will be very few Thameslink trains running after midnight. Train times are available in the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Transport for London (for information)

As well as the National Rail services listed above, there will be all-night London Underground services on most Tube routes.
