What to do in Guildford

This scenic town is full of stories from the past that can be explored from the moment you step out of the station.

Dated to around the 12th or 13th Century and once a wealthy merchant’s shop, Guildford’s medieval Undercroft gives you a look into the past. Situated across from The Angel Hotel, this undercroft is said to have sold expensive items such as wines, fine wools and silks.

If you want to sample fresh local produce from locally grown fruit and veg, handmade baked goods and locally reared meat, Guildford Farmer’s market can be found on Guildford High Street on the first Tuesday of every month. If you’re around on a weekend, North Street Market is open on Fridays and Saturdays.

For breathtaking views of the town and the greenery surrounding it, the Great Tower in Guildford Castle is the place to go. The castle grounds themselves have stunning seasonal garden displays and it is a perfect place to relax and have a picnic in.

For movie buffs, Guildford Cathedral was used in a a scene from the well-known 1976 supernatural horror film The Omen.
