Between Ipswich and Lowestoft

Description

Engineering work is taking place between Ipswich and Halesworth, closing all lines. Background information can be found below.

Buses will replace trains between Ipswich and Halesworth.

Trains will run between Halesworth and Lowestoft.

Background information:

Much of the track on the East Suffolk line is over 100 years old and needs to be replaced to maintain the safe and reliable operation of train services. During this nine-day line closure, old, jointed rail will be replaced with continuously welded rail, helping to reduce noise from passing trains and improving passenger comfort.

These renewals will also help support the Sizewell C project's strategy to transport construction materials by rail in the future. More information is available on the Network Rail website.
