Background information:

The line between Barnes and Kew Bridge will be closed between 23 and 31 August while Network Rail complete vital strengthening works on Barnes Bridge over the River Thames.

The middle girders of the bridge, which do most of the heavy lifting when supporting the tracks and trains above, will be replaced with brand new girders. New, longer-lasting and eco-friendly support blocks (wheel timbers) will also be installed under the tracks heading away from London.
