First Class

Travel in style with a First Class ticket – it’s easy to upgrade too

If you’re travelling for business, First Class gives you space to work and focus. If you’re travelling for leisure, you can relax and arrive rested and ready to enjoy your destination.

First Class carriages offer comfort and space, often with larger tables and reclining seats and sometimes with complimentary food and drink, newspapers and other perks.

Check with your train company to see the benefits of their First Class service.

FAQs

First Class fares are available for most journeys and ticket types. You can check when planning your journey or buying your ticket.

It depends on your journey, how far in advance you book your ticket, and what time of day you wish to travel.

Most train companies offer First Class accommodation on some or all of their routes. But they may also have some routes that are Standard Class only.

Check with your train company.

If you already hold a ticket for travel in Standard Class, you can upgrade to First Class before you start your journey if you pay the difference in fare at any staffed National Rail ticket office.

On some services at weekends and on bank holidays, you can upgrade to First Class with a fixed-price Weekend First addition to your ticket. These may be available either ahead of travel at a ticket office, or onboard from the Train Manager. Train companies that offer Weekend First upgrades will make information available on their own websites and at stations.
