Description

A person has been hit by a train between Newmarket and Cambridge. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines are closed. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised or diverted via Ely.

Trains will be revised to not run between Newmarket and Cambridge.

Customer advice:

Greater Anglia have received reports of a person being struck by a train between Newmarket and Cambridge.

Emergency response teams have been notified and are attending as quickly as possible to carry out a full investigation.

Service impact:

Train services may be cancelled, delayed, or subject to changes while the response team manages the incident.

Services between Ipswich and Cambridge will be diverted to Ely, where they will terminate and restart from.

From Ely, you may travel on a Greater Anglia local service or on CrossCountry services to / from Cambridge.

Alternative travel options:

If you are travelling between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds to Cambridge, you may travel via Ely to Cambridge. And if you are travelling from Cambridge to Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, you may travel to Ely, change at Ely for a service towards Bury and Ipswich or a service towards Norwich, change at Norwich for a train service to Ipswich.

Rail replacement:

Rail replacement vehicles have been requested to run between Cambridge North and Bury St Edmunds but are not yet confirmed. At present, Greater Anglia do not expect them to be in place before 18:40, so please delay your journey until the buses are confirmed.

Advance purchase tickets holders will be allowed to travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.
