Description

A person has been hit by a train between Chesterfield and Sheffield. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between stations are closed. Trains running between Derby / Nottingham and Sheffield may be cancelled, delayed by up to 120 minutes or revised.

This is expected until approximately 09:00.

Advice for CrossCountry customers:

To assist you with your journey, you can use your ticket to travel on the following services, at no extra cost:

  • The two CrossCountry services operating before and after your cancelled service

  • East Midlands Railway via any reasonable route

  • Northern between Chesterfield and Leeds, and also between Leeds and York

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over to another train, but Coach B, H and L are our unreserved coaches on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them.

Advice for East Midlands Railway customers:

East Midlands Railway trains are likely to experience extended delays or alterations. You should use alternative routes which will be most comfortable and the quickest way to get where you need to be. Your ticket can be used at no extra cost to travel via the following alternative routes:

Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester - Sheffield
You may use your ticket to travel between Liverpool/Manchester and Sheffield, via Leeds.
You can use your East Midlands Railway ticket on TransPennine Express services between Leeds and Manchester/Liverpool, and Northern or CrossCountry services between Sheffield and Leeds. This will extend your journey by approximately 1 hour 15 minute.

Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester - Nottingham
You may use your ticket to travel between Liverpool/Manchester and Nottingham via Crewe. You can use your East Midlands Railway ticket on Avanti West Coast and West Midlands Railway services between Liverpool/Manchester and Crewe/Stoke On Trent where you can board East Midlands Railway services towards Nottingham. This will extend your journey by approximately 30 minutes.

Manchester - Stockport
You may use your East Midlands Railway tickets on CrossCountry services between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

Sheffield - Nottingham
You may use your ticket on East Midlands Railway or CrossCountry services between Nottingham and Derby, and Derby and Sheffield.

Advice for Northern customers:

Train services are unable to run between Nottingham and Chesterfield (in both directions).

Services between Nottingham and Leeds be affected by this disruption.

What should I do?

You should continue your journey using the alternative suggestions below.

You can travel on the following train operators and routes at no extra cost:

  • CrossCountry services between Chesterfield and Sheffield

  • East Midlands services between Nottingham and Sheffield

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport has been requested to operate between Nottingham and Chesterfield, in both directions. More information will be provided when known.
