Description

A person has been hit by a train between West Croydon / East Croydon and New Cross Gate. Whilst the emergency services attend to the scene, all lines between these stations are closed.

London Overground services between West Croydon / Crystal Palace and Highbury & Islington will not run between West Croydon / Crystal Palace and New Cross Gate.

Southern and Thameslink services running between West Croydon / East Croydon and London Bridge / London Victoria (via Selhurst and Crystal Palace) may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Gatwick Express / Southern / Thameslink customer advice:

Services are currently unable to run in either direction between West Croydon / East Croydon and London Bridge / London Victoria.

The line between London Victoria and East Croydon has reopened, and services will be starting to move again in both directions. Delays of 60-90 minutes are possible, as well as short notice alterations and cancellations.

Please check before you travel using online journey planners and live departure boards online and at stations. Journey times will be significantly extended this evening, so please allow plenty of extra time - we would advise at least an extra 60 minutes.

Where possible, we would strongly advise that you use an alternative route to complete your journey this evening. For journeys between Central London and East Croydon/Gatwick Airport and beyond, you should travel to/from London Victoria instead. Ticket acceptance is in place on alternative providers as detailed below.

Impact to services:

  • Southern services that run both to/from London Bridge are currently unable to run. Services will be delayed or cancelled. Services to/from London Victoria can now run, but will be subject to severe delays and short notice alterations and cancellations

  • Thameslink services that run between London Blackfriars/London Bridge and East Croydon are unable to run. Services will be delayed until a diversionary route is available or will be cancelled

  • Gatwick Express services that run between London Victoria, Gatwick Airport and Brighton can now run, but will be subject to severe delays and short notice alterations and cancellations

Ticket acceptance:

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following alternatives:

South of London:

  • Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services via any reasonable route, including Southern services between London Victoria and Horsham via Dorking

  • South Western Railway services on any reasonable route including between London Waterloo and Dorking/Epsom, and between London Waterloo and Portsmouth/Southampton

  • Southeastern services on any reasonable route including between London, Tunbridge Wells and Hastings

  • Great Western Railway services between Gatwick Airport, Redhill, Reigate, Guildford and Reading

The following Metrobus services:

  • 2 between Crawley and Ifield

  • 3 between Gatwick, Three Bridges, and Crawley

  • 4 between Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport

  • 10 between Crawley and Gatwick Airport

  • 20 between Three Bridges, Gatwick Airport, and Horley

  • 23 between Crawley, Faygate and Horsham

  • 100 between Redhill, Earlswood (Town), Salfords (Town), Horley (Town), Gatwick Airport, Crawley, and Three Bridges.

  • 200 between Horsham, Littlehaven, Faygate, Ifield, and Gatwick Airport

  • 272 between Crawley, Three Bridges, Haywards Heath, Wivelsfield, Burgess Hill, Hassocks, Preston Park, and Brighton

  • 291 between Crawley, Three Bridges, East Grinstead, and Tunbridge Wells

  • 430/435 between Redhill, Reigate, Earlswood, and Merstham

  • London Buses between Central London, East Croydon and Redhill

  • London Trams between East Croydon, West Croydon and Mitcham Junction

  • Elizabeth line services between Farringdon and London Liverpool Street

North of London:

  • Great Northern services on any reasonable route between London, Stevenage and Peterborough/Cambridge

  • East Midlands Railway services between London St Pancras, Luton Airport Parkway, Luton and Bedford

  • LNER services between London Kings Cross, Stevenage and Peterborough

  • Greater Anglia services between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge
