Description

All lines have reopened following a tree on the railway in the Edale area. Trains between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly may still be delayed up to 40 minutes, cancelled or revised.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

What has happened?

There was a tree blocking the railway which has now been removed. This is between Sheffield and Stockport and is disrupting trains on the Norwich / Nottingham / Liverpool Lime Street route.

Network Rail have successfully removed the tree and trains can now begin to run again.

How does this affect my train?

Trains can begin to run again between Sheffield and Stockport.

Between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street:

You can use your East Midlands Railway ticket on TransPennine Express services between Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly /Liverpool Lime Street, and Northern or CrossCountry services between Sheffield and Leeds. This will extend your journey by approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

Between Nottingham and Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street:

You can use your East Midlands Railway ticket on Avanti West Coast and West Midlands Railway services between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street and also between Stoke-on-Trent and Crewe where you can board East Midlands Railway services towards Nottingham. This will extend your journey by approximately 30 minutes.

Between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly:

You may use your East Midlands Railway tickets on CrossCountry services between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly.

Between Nottingham and Sheffield:

You may use your ticket on East Midlands Railway or CrossCountry services between Nottingham and Derby, and Derby and Sheffield.

All these alternative route options are available in the opposite direction too. Don’t worry about your ticket, other train operators know about the disruption to your journey and your ticket can be used at no extra cost on their trains.

Shuttle buses is in operation between Sheffield and Stockport calling at all stations in-between.
