Description
The Met Office are advising that heatwave conditions are forecast for parts of England and Wales with temperatures expected to remain high until at least Saturday 27 June.
The hot weather is set to be widespread over England and Wales, and highs of up to 38°C are possible in some areas. There are red and amber weather warnings in place for extreme heat covering parts of England and Wales until Thursday 25 June.
Due to the forecasted high temperatures across the Greater Anglia and Stansted Express network over the coming days, they will be introducing temporary travel easements to support customers in completing their journeys more comfortably.
Easement and refund advice:
If you hold a ticket for travel on Tuesday 23 June, Wednesday 24 June or Thursday 25 June, you can use it instead to travel on Friday 26 June. This will be at no extra cost to you and you will not need to change your ticket.
You can also use your ticket to travel earlier in the day on 23, 24 and 25 June - we recommend doing so before 12:00 midday when the temperatures are likely to be slightly cooler. You'll need to keep within the restrictions of your ticket - for example, if you hold an off-peak ticket, please travel only on earlier off-peak trains. If you hold an advance ticket for a specific train operator, you can use this on earlier services with the same operator.
If you decide not to travel on 23, 24 or 25 June, you can claim a full refund with no admin fee charged. You can apply for a refund via the retailer you originally purchased your ticket from.
Impact to service:
Services will continue to run, but passengers should expect disruption across the network. For safety reasons, trains may operate at reduced speeds and to amended timetables, meaning some journeys may take longer and there is a heightened risk of delays, cancellations and last-minute alterations.
Check before you travel:
You can check your journey for today using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner. For travel on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June, please check back again on Tuesday 23 June.
Compensation:
You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
