Description
The Met Office are advising that heatwave conditions are forecast for parts of England and Wales with temperatures expected to remain high until at least Saturday 27 June.
The hot weather is set to be widespread over England and Wales, and highs of up to 38°C are possible in some areas. There are red and amber weather warnings in place for extreme heat covering parts of England and Wales from today, Monday 22 to Thursday 25 June.
The extreme heat forecasted this week can lead to an increase in points failures. To reduce the risk of this, Network Rail are not moving some of these points to protect the key route into London. As a result, Great Western Railway will be running an amended timetable between Newbury / Didcot Parkway and London Paddington with services being revised to terminate at Reading, or to run non-stop between Reading and London Paddington.
Trains will be unable to call at Slough, Maidenhead or Twyford.
Disruption is expected until the end of day Thursday 26 June.
