Southeastern customer advice:

What's happened?

Police have attended an incident on a bridge over the railway in the Hastings area, involving a person in a dangerous position. The line has now reopened and trains are now able to operate.

How does this affect my journey?

Trains can now run to / from / via Hastings, but will be subject to alterations and delays due to the severe lateness caused by the line closure.

If you're in London and need to travel to Hastings it is recommend taking a train to Tunrbidge Wells and changing on to another service to Hastings, or a replacement bus to avoid late night disruption.

The following replacement buses will be in operation:

  • 22:30 departing Tunbridge Wells - Hastings

  • 23:30 departing Tunrbidge Wells - Hastings

  • 00:30 departing Tunrbidge Wells - Hastings

Southern customer advice:

Services are now on the move again through the Hastings area. Delays are possible and some services may be amended to start and terminate at a different station instead. Some services may also have cancelled stops or will be cancelled completely.

Please check before you travel this evening. Journeys will take longer than usual so please allow plenty of extra time - we'd advise at least an extra 30 minutes.

Alternative routes at present are very limited so they would not recommend this as an option.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Earlier this evening, a trespass incident was been reported in the Hastings area, and trains were stopped for safety. Emergency services and Network Rail have attended and removed the person to a position of safety away from the railway and lines have now reopened.

Trespassing on the railway is extremely dangerous. Trains run at all times, often without warning, and many areas have high-voltage third rails, steep drops, and other hazards.

It is also illegal, with serious penalties for obstructing the railway.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
