Description

A broken rail at Hitchin means that some northbound lines are being disrupted. As a result of this, trains running between London and Peterborough / Cambridge may be delayed, cancelled or revised.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Great Northern and Thameslink customer advice:

Fewer lines are available at Hitchin, and trains may be delayed or suspended. If you are travelling now, expect delays and consider alternative routes.

Service changes:

  • Services between London Kings Cross and Kings Lynn will operate as shuttle services between Cambridge and Kings Lynn

  • Services between Stevenage and Cambridge will not call at Hitchin (northbound) until further notice Southbound services towards London will continue to stop as normal

  • Services between Stevenage and Peterborough will not call at Hitchin or Arlesey (northbound) until further notice. Southbound services towards London will stop at these stations as normal

The following stations will not receive a service (northbound towards Peterborough):

  • Hitchin

  • Arlesey


Alternative travel options:

If travelling to Hitchin or Arlesey from London, go to Biggleswade and change there for a return service.

If travelling from Hitchin or Arlesey towards Peterborough, go to Stevenage first and change there for onward travel.

Alternatively, rail replacement buses are running from Hitchin to Arlesey following the below schedule:

  • Departing XX:20

  • Departing XX:50

The first bus to run will be at 16:50. Please note, these services may be operated using a minibus and so you may not be able to board your preferred service.

Ticket acceptance:

Your ticket will be valid at no extra cost on:

  • Alternative Thameslink or Great Northern services

  • LNER services between London Kings Cross, Stevenage, and Peterborough

  • Greater Anglia services between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge / Ely

Please allow an extra 30 minutes for your journey this evening particularly if you need to change throughout your journey.
