Description

The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Warrington West and Hough Green. Whilst they attend the incident, all lines are closed. Trains running between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised or diverted.

Major disruption is expected until 14:00.

Northern customer advice:

Train services are unable to run between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions.

Northern services between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street are able to call at all stations however may be subject to short notice delays and cancellations.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

  • You can also travel on TransPennine Express services at no extra cost between Manchester stations and Liverpool Lime Street via Newton-le-Willows

  • Merseyrail services between Hunts Cross and Liverpool stations

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport will be operated as follows:

  • From Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington Central at 12:15

  • From Warrington Central to Liverpool Lime Street at 13:15

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

No trains can run between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly via Warrington Central.

Trains diverting via this alternative route may be delayed and will be unable to serve the following stations:

  • Urmston

  • Irlam

  • Birchwood

  • Warrington Central

  • Warrington West

  • Liverpool South Parkway

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following services:

  • Northern between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central, between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street, and also between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly

  • Metrolink between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria

  • Alternative TransPennine express services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street, and also between Leeds and Liverpool Lime Street to connect with Northern services to Sheffield

  • Transport for Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly / Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Bank Quay

  • London Northwestern Railway between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street

You can also travel on TransPennine Express services to York to connect with LNER services to Doncaster.
