Description

All lines have now reopened following an earlier points failure between Ely and Kings Lynn. Trains running between these stations may continue to be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 11:30.

Customer advice:

Trains can now run between Ely and Kings Lynn.

Great Northern are working to return to our scheduled timetable, but please continue to check journey planners and station information boards before you travel. Some trains in the area will still be disrupted, and your journey may take up to 30 minutes longer than usual.

The first expected trains are:

  • 08:45 Great Northern Train from Kings Lynn to London Kings Cross

  • 07:24 Great Northern Train from London Kings Cross to Kings Lynn - this train departs Ely at 08:34


You may still use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on:

  • Thameslink or Great Northern trains on any reasonable route towards your destination

  • Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and Ely

  • CrossCountry services between Cambridge and Ely

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Earlier today, a points failure blocked all trains on this route.

Points are movable sections of track that guide trains onto different routes at junctions. If they develop a fault due to obstructions, electronic failures, or other issues, trains cannot pass safely.

Network Rail sent specialist teams to investigate, and the fault has now been fixed. Trains can now begin to run between these stations as expected; however, it may take some time for the service to fully return to normal.
