Description
Lines have reopened following an earlier trespass incident in the Lancing area.
As services recover, trains running between Hove and Worthing may continue to be severely delayed by up to 90 minutes, cancelled or revised.

Major disruption is expected until 17:00.
Customer advice:
Following an earlier trespass incident, services were unable to run in either direction between Hove and Worthing. Services are now on the move again, however significant delays, alterations and cancellations are all still expected.
Work is taking place to return to a scheduled timetable, but please continue to check journey planners and station information boards before you travel. Some trains in the area will still be disrupted, and it is likely that you'll need to take a different train than planned, change trains en route or use an alternative route instead.
Journey times will be extended by at least 30 minutes, so please allow plenty of extra time to account for this.
The following changes have been in place and remain possible whilst teams work to return services to normal:
Services that run between Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea have been suspended
Services that run between Brighton and Chichester have been suspended
Services that run between London Victoria and Littlehampton have been suspended
Services that run between Brighton and Southampton have run between Barnham and Southampton only, or have been cancelled
Where possible, a shuttle service has run in both directions between Brighton and Hove

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following alternatives:
Southern services via any reasonable route including via Horsham
Gatwick Express and Thameslink services between Brighton, Three Bridges and London
South Western Railway between Havant / Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central

Earlier this afternoon, a trespass incident was reported in the Lancing area, and trains were stopped for safety. Emergency services and Network Rail have attended and confirmed that trains can now run again through the area.
Trespassing on the railway is extremely dangerous. Trains run at all times, often without warning, and many areas have high-voltage third rails, steep drops, and other hazards.
It is also illegal, with serious penalties for obstructing the railway.
