Description

Following a fault on a train between Cambridge and Hitchin all lines have reopened. As service recovers, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 11:00.

Customer advice:

Services from Kings Lynn, Ely and Cambridge towards London are being delayed this morning, whilst a train fault is investigated. Lines are now open and services are starting to move again.

However, delays, alterations and cancellations are all possible. Some services may have cancelled stops, or will terminate and start at a different station to normal instead.

Please check before you travel this morning and allow plenty of extra time - we'd advise at least an extra 20 minutes. If your planned train is affected then you may need to take a different train than planned, change trains en route or use an alternative route instead.

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following:

  • Elizabeth line between London Liverpool Street and Farringdon

  • Greater Anglia services between Ely, Cambridge and London Liverpool Street

  • Great Northern and Thameslink via any reasonable route

  • London Underground on any reasonable route including between London Terminals

If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:

If your train is delayed between stations, please stay on board and listen for updates. You can also ask staff if you need more information. We know where you are and are working to get you moving as soon as possible.

For your safety, please don’t leave the train unless instructed. Other trains may still be running, and the tracks can be very dangerous.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

A train with a fault was blocking the line from Cambridge towards Royston, Stevenage and London.

In this instance, the train was delaying whilst the fault was investigated, but was confirmed as unable to continue in passenger service. The service terminated at Foxton and is now on the way to the depot, and lines have reopened as a result.
