Great Western Railway between Basingstoke and Reading

Description

A broken rail between Basingstoke and Reading means trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines. As a result, trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

CrossCountry services may be diverted via Guildford. Your journey time may be extended.

We anticipate this to continue until approximately 11:30.

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services and routes:

Routes:

Between Manchester / Birmingham and Reading / Southampton / Bournemouth via London:

  • Avanti West Coast services between Manchester Piccadilly / Birmingham New Street and London Euston

  • London Northwestern Railway services between Birmingham New Street and London Euston

  • Chiltern Railways services between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone

  • London Underground services between London Terminals. Please show your ticket to gate line staff on the Underground to be allowed through the ticket gates.

  • GWR services between Reading / Oxford and London Paddington

  • South Western Railway services between Bournemouth and London Waterloo

Between Birmingham and Reading via Oxford:

  • Travel using CrossCountry services between Birmingham New Street and Worcestershire Parkway

  • Travel using GWR services between Worcestershire Parkway and Reading

You may also use your ticket on the following operators:

  • West Midlands Railway services between Coventry and Leamington Spa

  • GWR services between Basingstoke and Reading

You do not need to amend your ticket to use it on these services.

Road transport:

CrossCountry have requested road transport to run between Reading and Basingstoke. You may use these services at no additional cost. Any confirmed coaches will be shown in online journey planners.

All road transport will be fully accessible. If you are a disabled customer requiring further assistance for your disrupted journey, please speak to railway station staff or use the customer help points if the station is unstaffed.

Other Options:

If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, then you can use your ticket on the two CrossCountry services operating before and the two CrossCountry services after your cancelled service

Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over, but Coach B, H and L are our unreserved coaches on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them.

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost

Advice for Great Western Railway customers:

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on:

  • Reading buses buzz 9, lime 2 and lime 2a to help complete your journey

  • South Western Railway between Basingstoke and London Waterloo, and between Basingstoke and Guildford via Woking in both directions

Additional information:

Train operators are working with Network Rail to be able to return to running normal timetable as soon as possible. Until repairs have been carried out, train services are suspended between Basingstoke and Reading, in both directions.
