Description

A train hitting an obstruction on the line between Northallerton and Middlesbrough / Sunderland means all lines running between these stations are currently closed.

As a result, trains will be cancelled, revised or diverted.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Grand Central customer advice:

Services will be diverted to run via Darlington. Extended journey times should be expected.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

You can use your tickets, at no extra cost, on the following services until further notice:

  • Alternative TransPennine Express services between Manchester Airport and York / Darlington

  • CrossCountry between York and Darlington

  • Grand Central between York and Eaglescliffe

  • LNER services between York and Darlington

  • Northern services between Darlington and Redcar Central

Please be aware that the other operators services are also likely to be busy.

For customers travelling to / from Yarm, the following rail replacement road transport has been requested:

  • From Middlesbrough calling at Thornaby, Eaglescliffe, Yarm and Northallerton

  • From York calling at Thirsk, Northallerton, Yarm, Eaglescliffe, Thornaby and Middlesbrough

The road transport has been requested to depart Middlesbrough at XX:25 past the hour in place of the cancelled train services.

The road transport has been requested to depart York at XX:50 past the hour in place of the cancelled train services.

Additional road transport has been requested to operate between Yarm and Darlington / Middlesbrough, in both directions.

Journey times may be extended by 90 minutes whilst travelling by rail replacement transport.
