Description

A failure of the electricity supply in the Norwood area means that some lines are blocked. As a result, services running between Norwood Junction and West Croydon / East Croydon may be delayed by up to 40 minutes, cancelled, diverted or revised.

Disruption is expected until 11:15.

London Overground customer advice:

Clapham Junction, Crystal Palace and New Cross services will run as booked. Two West Croydon services per hour will be diverted to Crystal Palace and two West Croydon services per hour will terminate at Surrey Quays.

Your ticket can be used on London Buses and Southern services at no extra cost via any reasonable route.

Southern / Thameslink customer advice:

If you are travelling from Norwood Junction to West Croydon you will need to change more times than normal. Please allow at least an additional 60 minutes to complete your journey.

If you are travelling in the opposite direction from West Croydon towards Norwood Junction you can continue your normal route. There may be delays, however, of at least 30 minutes.

Please talk to station staff, look at the information boards or check your journey planner for the most recent information.

How is the service being changed?

While this disruption is ongoing, Southern / Thameslink will be making the following changes to services:

Trains that normally run between London Victoria and West Croydon are cancelled.

Trains that normally run between London Bridge and Epsom will run non stop between London Bridge and Sutton. This means that stations between Norwood Junction and Carshalton Beeches will not be served by this service.

If you are trying to catch a train to any of these stops you should take a Southern or Thameslink service to East Croydon and change onto a London bus to your destination.

How do you get from Norwood Junction to West Croydon?

If you are travelling to West Croydon from Norwood Junction you should use your ticket on London Buses between these stations.

Alternatively you can continue your journey to East Croydon and catch the London Tram direct to West Croydon.

Planning your journey:

You can use live departure boards, a live map of the network and the alternative route guide to help you.

If you're travelling in the London area, you can plan journeys on alternative routes by using the TfL Journey Planner.

The Southern app will also help you plan your journey.

Can I use my ticket with another operator?

You can travel on the following services at no additional cost:

  • Southern services between East Croydon and London Victoria

  • Thameslink services between East Croydon and London Bridge

  • London Underground between all London terminals

  • London Trams between Mitcham Junction and Beckenham Junction

  • London Buses between Sutton, East Croydon and London Terminals

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Train operators have been advised of a problem with the electrical supply to the trains in the area. This means that some services can't move as normal until power is restored.

They are working closely with Network Rail and local electricity suppliers to make sure the power is restored. Until this is done, it is expected there will be delays and changes to services in the area.

If you're on a train which is being held in the area, it may take longer for train operators to get you to the next station, and onwards to your destination. Please listen out for information from the train crew or contact Southern / Thameslink on social media if you need further support with your journey.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
