Description

Following an earlier fault with the signalling system between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport, trains are returning to normal.

As services recover, services operating between these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 21:00.

Customer advice:

Most services have now returned to normal, however a small number remain cancelled. While we work to restore full service you may need to use an alternative service to reach your destination.

Service alterations:

At present, the following alterations are taking place:

  • Some Thameslink services between Cambridge and Brighton were cancelled. You can use alternative Great Northern or Thameslink services to complete your journey

  • Some Southern services between London Victoria and Littlehampton will call additionally at Three Bridges

  • Great Northern services between Kings Cross and Cambridge will call additionally at Ashwell & Morden

While services return to normal, tickets will remain valid on the following alternatives at no extra cost:

  • Alternative Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern Services via reasonable routes

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Operators were first advised of this incident at 16:45 today.

Earlier today, a track circuit failure disrupted trains which travel from East Croydon towards Gatwick. This meant that one of the southbound lines could not be used, and so all services running from London towards Gatwick were travelling via Redhill.

This fault has now been resolved and services are returning to normal, however a number of alterations had already been made to services through the area and it will take some time to return all services to normal.
