Description

A gas leak near the railway between Redhill and Tonbridge means all lines will be blocked. As a result, trains between these stations will be suspended.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Customer advice

Repairs are required to a gas main near the railway between Redhill and Tonbridge. The route is now closed to trains in both directions.

Replacement bus services:

Buses will replace trains in both directions on this route until at least 22:00, and possibly after that time, until the end of service.

These buses have been confirmed, and they are shown on the online journey planners and station information screens.

Using a bus on this route will take longer than usual, with an overall journey time of about 1 hour 20 minutes between Redhill and Tonbridge.

Alternative public transport services:

There are also some alternative rail routes in the area, Southern have arranged for your tickets to be accepted at no extra cost on the following:

  • Thameslink services between London Bridge and East Croydon / Redhill

  • Southeastern services between London Bridge and Tonbridge

  • Alternative Southern services between London Bridge, East Croydon and Edenbridge Town (a short walk from Edenbridge)

These options will allow you to travel between Redhill, the Edenbridge area and Tonbridge, with a change of trains at London Bridge (or East Croydon, for journeys between Redhill and Edenbridge).

Please leave at least an extra hour of time to make journeys on these alternative routes, as they are longer.

For journeys to or from Nutfield, Godstone, Penshurst and Leigh, replacement bus service is likely to be the best option for your journey.

Journeys to / from Nutfield:

At Nutfield, buses will stop at the Memorial Hall bus stops on the A25. There is a footpath to Nutfield Station, but if you are unable to use this, please speak to staff at Redhill (if you are travelling towards Nutfield) or use the station Help Points (if you are travelling from Nutfield).

One of the gas mains between Redhill and Nutfield needs to be repaired this evening, and as a safety precaution, the electrical power to the railway has been switched off in the immediate area.

Southern trains are unable to serve this route until power is restored.
