Description

Lines have reopened in the Selhurst Norwood Junction area following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train. Trains may still be delayed by up to 60 minutes, cancelled or revised whilst service recovers.

Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.

If you've been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat.

Southern / Thameslink / Gatwick Express customer advice:

Trains can now start to run again between Streatham Common and East Croydon, following this tragic incident.

Service recovery will now take place, but due to the level of disruption this will take some time, and previous travel advice and ticket acceptance will remain in place until further notice.

If you are taking a train from London towards East Croydon, and beyond, please allow up to at least 40-60 minutes for your journey as your train will be diverted around the area and take longer.

If you are travelling towards London Victoria, please travel to London Bridge as an alternative where you will be able to use your ticket on alternative transport.

Due to the level of disruption, several London stations are becoming very congested and so you may need to wait a lot longer for onwards travel. Please utilise local and wider ticket acceptance and speak to station staff where available.

Changes to service:

The following routes are suspended:

  • Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Brighton

  • Services between London Victoria and Reigate

  • Services between London Bridge and East Croydon

  • Services between London Victoria and Epsom Downs

The following routes will have amendments:

  • Services between London Victoria and Ore will run between Ore and East Croydon

  • Services between London Victoria and Littlehampton will run between Littlehampton and East Croydon

  • Services between London Victoria and Bognor Regis will between Gatwick Airport and Bognor Regis / Portsmouth Harbour

  • Services between London Victoria and East Croydon will run to an amended route via Crystal Palace

If you're waiting on a train which is delayed between stations:

If your train is delayed between stations, please stay on board and listen for updates. You can also ask staff if you need more information. Train operators know where you are and are working to get you moving as soon as possible.

For your safety, please don’t leave the train unless instructed. Other trains may still be running, and the tracks can be very dangerous. If the area has an electric third rail, it stays live even during delays and looks just like the other rails.
