Description

A broken rail in the Hazel Grove area means all lines are disrupted. Trains running between Sheffield / Buxton and Manchester Piccadilly may be revised, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted.

In addition there was an earlier points failure between Stockport and Manchester. As service recovers, trains between these stations may still be delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 18:30.

Network Rail engineers are on site investigating the broken rail at Hazel Grove.

East Midlands Railway customer advice:

Trains between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly in both directions will be diverted via Romiley where possible and will not call at Stockport. This will delay trains by up to 30 minutes between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly. Services may start or terminate at Sheffield.

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost to travel with the following train operators:

  • Avanti West Coast between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly in both directions until further notice

  • Northern between

    • Stockport and Manchester stations in both directions

    • Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions

  • TransPennine Express between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions

TransPennine Express customer advice:

Trains running from Sheffield towards Manchester Piccadilly may be diverted via an alternative route, this means that services will fail to call at Stockport.

You should continue to travel as planned, however, your journey may be delayed or diverted.

Customers wishing to travel to / from Stockport may use their ticket, at no extra cost on Northern services between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly, in both directions. Please note, Northern are also affected by this disruption.
