Description

The Met Office are advising that temperatures today are expected to be above average for the time of year. Highs are forecast to exceed 30°C in London, and similar high temperatures are likely across central and southern England. This hot weather is expected to continue well into the week and the weekend.

What South Westeern Railway are doing about it

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat-health alert for the South of England, covering the whole of the South Western Railway network, until 21:00 on Sunday 12 July.

During this extended period of hot weather, please travel as normal but check your journeys before setting off.

Planned changes will impact a small number of services when the temperatures are forecast to be highest on Thursday afternoon, but otherwise plan to run a normal service.

Travel to coastal destinations

Trains and stations on the South Coast, including destinations like Bournemouth and Weymouth, are expected to be very busy.

Please plan ahead by checking return train times carefully and allowing extra time to board a service.

If you are travelling, remember to carry water with you and speak to a railway colleague if you feel unwell during your journey

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey for today using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
