Train operators affected

Route(s) affected

Southern services between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction / East Croydon / Sutton (Surrey)

Thameslink services between St Albans City and Sutton (Surrey)

Description

A fault with the signalling system at Tulse Hill means that trains will have to run at reduced speed on all lines towards London. Trains may delayed by up to 15 minutes, cancelled or revised.

This is expected until the end of the day.

Customer advice:

Southern and Thameslink services will be delayed by around 10-15 minutes when travelling through Tulse Hill towards central London. The delay estimate is not exact, and will depend on how many trains are in the area.

To reduce congestion, there will also be some cancellations and service changes at short notice, especially affecting Southern services on the Beckenham Junction route.

There will also be some other service changes across the area. Where trains are changed, this means they may divert onto different routes, may not stop at all the usual stations, or may not complete their full journeys as normal.

We recommend you leave some extra time for your journey, and check our online journey planning tools before making your journey.

When travelling, please listen to announcements and check station screens.

Because of this incident, congestion has also occurred through Balham, affecting Southern services via that station. However, this is now easing.

Alternative journey options:

For journeys on the Beckenham Junction route, we recommend you consider using alternative local public transport services.

Your ticket will be accepted at no extra cost on:

  • London Buses serving stations between the Croydon or Beckenham areas, the Streatham area, Tulse Hill and London Bridge

  • London Trams between Beckenham Junction, Birkbeck, East Croydon and West Croydon

  • Southeastern services between Beckenham Junction and London Victoria

  • London Overground services on the Windrush line between West Croydon, Crystal Palace, Clapham Junction or Peckham Rye and Canada Water

  • London Underground services on the Jubilee line via Canada Water, to connect with London Bridge, and also between London terminals

  • Southern and Thameslink will accept each other's tickets interchangeably on any reasonable route.

For most other journeys, you can use your normal route, but you can also still use the above options if you prefer.
