Description

Following a tree on the railway in the Upper Warlingham area all lines have now reopened. Whilst service recovers, trains running between Uckfield / East Grinstead and East Croydon may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until approximately 12:00.

Customer advice:

If you are travelling between Uckfield, East Grinstead, Oxted, and London this morning, please plan ahead and allow up to 30 minutes extra time to complete your journey.

Services to and from East Grinstead have now resumed, and services to and from Uckfield are expected to restart shortly. The first confirmed services are:

  • 08:07 between London Bridge and Uckfield

  • 08:36 between East Grinstead and London Victoria

  • 09:33 between Uckfield and London Bridge


If you are travelling now, you may wish to use alternative routes or methods of transport as these may be quicker. While services are resuming, journey times are still expected to be extended by at least 60 minutes. Please check your full route before starting your journey.

    • 270 between Brighton, Hassocks, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead

    • 291 between Crawley, Three Bridges, East Grinstead, and Tunbridge Wells – Hourly service

    • 281 between Crawley, Three Bridges, East Grinstead, Dormans, and Lingfield – Hourly service

    • 400 between East Grinstead, Three Bridges, Crawley, Gatwick Airport, Horley, Salfords, Earlswood, Redhill, Nutfield, Godstone and Caterham – Hourly service

    • 409 East Grinstead, Lingfield (War memorial), Godstone and Caterham – Hourly service

    • 410 between Godstone, Hurst Green, Oxted, Nutfield (High Street), and Redhill

  • The following Brighton & Hove Buses routes:

    • Regency 29, 29A, 29B, 29X between Brighton, Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough, Eridge, and Tunbridge Wells

    • Regency 54 between Eastbourne, Polegate, and Uckfield

  • The following Compass Travel routes:

    • 261 between East Grinstead / Uckfield (runs every 2 hours)

    • 31 / 31A / 31B between Uckfield and Haywards Heath (hourly service, 45-minute journey)

    • 228 – Crowborough local only between the station and the town centre to connect with Brighton & Hove buses

  • The following London Buses routes:

    • 403 Between Warlingham (Town), Sanderstead, South Croydon, and West Croydon

    • 412 Between Purley, Riddlesdown and South Croydon

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Late last night, a train hit a tree in the Upper Warlingham area. This has resulted in damage to the track which required extensive repairs. These have now all been completed and the line has been able to re-open for services to resume.
