Description

An operational incident between Hertford North and Stevenage means all lines are blocked.

As a result, trains between these stations will be cancelled or revised.

Services will not call at Watton-at-Stone.

This is expected until the end of the day.

Customer advice:

No trains can run from Hertford North towards Stevenage in either direction. This means that Great Northern services which usually run between Moorgate and Stevenage (Via Hertford North) will only run between Moorgate and Hertford North.

You will need to use an alternative route of travel for journeys between Hertford North and Stevenage - and Watton-at-Stone will NOT be served by train until further notice.

There will be a reduced service to and from stations between Moorgate and Hertford North as some trains will run via Welwyn Garden City. If you are travelling from an affected station and you cannot see a train to help you reach your destination, please speak to staff or press the green 'Emergency' button on the station help point.

How can I complete my journey?

  • If you are travelling from Watton-at-Stone, please press the green 'Emergency' button on the station help point to speak to a member of staff. Alternative routes will be provided towards Hertford North and Stevenage

  • If you are travelling to Watton-at-Stone, please instead travel to Hertford North or Stevenage and speak to a member of station staff for alternative routes

  • If you are travelling between Hertford North and Stevenage, please speak to a member of station staff and alternative routes wil be provided

  • If you are travelling between London and Stevenage, you can use your ticket at no additional cost on alternative Thameslink and Great Northern services that run via Welwyn Garden City

Using an alternative route could extend your journey time by around 20 minutes so please consider this when planning your journey and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

There is a freight train blocking the platform Great Northern uses at Stevenage to terminate and restart services which run via Hertford North. Using another platform would block the mainline and cause severe disruption so trains have been altered appropriately as a result.
