Description

A broken down freight train between Basingstoke and Winchester means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until 19:00.

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services:

• The two CrossCountry services operating before and after your cancelled service

• Great Western Railway services between Basingstoke and Reading

• South Western Railway services between Basingstoke and Southampton Central - South Western Railway are also affected by this disruption

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost

South Western Railway customer advice:

A freight train has broken down between Winchester and Micheldever on the line towards Basingstoke, this train will require another train to attach to it to move it out of the way. This rescue train is on the way and we expect it to arrive before 15:45, once it attaches and moves the broken down train out of the way, we will provide an update.

We have also been informed of another freight train that has fault between Winchester and Micheldever on the opposite line, this train has now been moved though and is now out of the way.

Long Distance & Mainline Services

• Services will be diverted via Havant / Guildford where possible

• London Waterloo to Weymouth services will be reduced to one service an hour and diverted via Havant as above.

How do I get to my destination?

If you are at Southampton and looking to travel towards Basingstoke / London, it may be quicker to travel towards Salisbury and change there for a train. The same applies if you need to travel between Basingstoke and Southampton.

If you are at Southampton and looking to travel towards Basingstoke / London, it may be quicker to travel towards Portsmouth / Havant and change there for a train towards Woking and then onto London or changing for Basingstoke. The same applies if you are travelling in the opposite direction.

If you are at Micheldever Station, we are requesting rail replacement transport to run between Basingstoke and Southampton Central, we will let you know when this is in place.

For passengers travelling to or from Botley / Hedge End, we are requesting replacement transport to run to and from these stations as well between Eastleigh and Fareham. We will let you know when this is in place.
