Description
Lines have now reopened following a fault with the signalling system north of York station. Due to the duration the lines were closed, trains between York and Knaresborough / Darlington will be severely delayed by up to 130 minutes, cancelled or revised.
Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.
CrossCountry customer advice:
To help with your journey you can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following routes:
Between Edinburgh and Newcastle
LNER or TransPennine Express services between these stations
Between Newcastle and York / Leeds
LNER or TransPennine Express services between York and Newcastle
Northern or TransPennine Express services between York and Leeds
You may also use your ticket on the following operators:
East Midlands Railway between Sheffield and Derby
LNER between Edinburgh and Doncaster
Northern services calling at York, Leeds, Doncaster or Sheffield
TransPennine Express between Doncaster and Sheffield
You do not need to amend your ticket to use it on these services.
Passengers affected by this disruption who wish to defer travel to a later date may use their tickets dated Tuesday 4 November on CrossCountry services on Wednesday 5 November.
If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, then you can use your ticket on the two CrossCountry services operating before and the two CrossCountry services after your cancelled service
Unfortunately, seat reservations will not be carried over to another train, but Coach B, H and L are unreserved coaches on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them.
If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost

Rail replacement transport has been requested. More information will be provided once they have been confirmed.

TransPennine Express are currently looking into options to keep you on the move. Until alternatives are in place, you are advised to travel on the next available TransPennine Express service to reach your destination.
When the line reopens your ticket can be used at no extra cost on:
LNER services between York and Newcastle in both directions
Cross Country services between Newcastle and Leeds in both directions
Northern services between Darlington and Saltburn in both directions
TransPennine Express services York to Scarborough/ Redcar Central / Newcastle in both directions
Customers travelling from Middlesbrough can travel on Northern services to Darlington, then can travel on LNER or Cross Country service to York.
Please note that other train operators may also be experiencing disruption today.
Please allow extra time for your journey and check before you travel.
To help you complete your journey, rail replacement transport has been requested to run between:
York to Newcastle.
Northallerton to York
Thirsk to York.
