Description

The emergency services dealing with an incident between York and Darlington / Middlesbrough / Sunderland means all lines are closed. As a result, trains will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until 18:00.

CrossCountry customer advice:

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services:

  • The two CrossCountry services operating before and after your cancelled service

  • LNER services between Doncaster and Edinburgh in both directions

  • TransPennine Express services between Doncaster and Sheffield in both directions and Leeds and Edinburgh in both directions

  • Northern between:

    • York / Newcastle and Middlesbrough in both directions

    • Leeds and York in both directions


You can also travel via the west coast route in both directions, on the following services, at no extra cost:

  • Avanti West Coast between Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh

  • TransPennine Express between York and Preston

  • Northern between York and Preston, and also between Newcastle and Carlisle

Road transport is being requested to operate between York and Newcastle in both directions. Further information will be provided once confirmed.

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over to another train, but Coach B, H and L are unreserved coaches on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them.

LNER customer advice:

Rail replacement has been requested to carry customers between York and Newcastle, including all intermittent stations.

From York:

  • 2 x York Pullman at 16:30

From Northallerton

  • 1 x Atkinson at 16:20

From Darlington:

  • 4 x 626 Coach Hire at 15:50

From Durham

  • 1 x Northstar

From Newcastle:

  • 2 x CTG at 16:00

  • From York, every hour calling at Darlington, Durham and Newcastle

  • From Newcastle, every hour calling at Durham, Darlington and York

Customers travelling to/from Chester/Le-Street please see station staff for onward road transport as required.

Customers travelling from Northallerton towards York, please note that Rail Replacement Transport has been requested to run for as soon as possible calling at York only.
