Bank Holiday Information: Avanti West Coast

This August bank holiday weekend (Saturday 24 August to Monday 26 August), Network Rail will be carrying out planned engineering work at London Euston and between Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield (see below). There will be a reduced timetable on some Avanti West Coast routes throughout the whole bank holiday weekend - Avanti West Coast have produced a handy summary of their services.

When combined with the many great events happening across the network, Creamfields, Manchester Pride, Notting Hill Carnival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and more, this may mean that trains are busier than usual this bank holiday weekend.

Saturday 24 August

Engineering work will be taking place in the London Euston area, and in the Stoke-on-Trent / Macclesfield area. As a result, Avanti West Coast will be operating the following amended service (hourly unless stated)

  • between London Euston and Blackpool North / Preston / Scotland (via Birmingham)

  • between London Euston and Glasgow Central

  • between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street

  • half-hourly between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly via Stafford / Crewe / Wilmslow - trains will not be able to call at Stoke-on-Trent or Macclesfield

  • buses will run between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent / Macclesfield, and between Wilmslow and Macclesfield to connect with train services

  • trains to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only.

Sunday 25 August

Engineering work will be taking place in the London Euston area, and in the Stoke-on-Trent / Macclesfield area. As a result, Avanti West Coast will be operating the following amended service (hourly unless stated)

  • between London Euston and Preston / Scotland (via Birmingham)

  • between London Euston and Glasgow Central

  • between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street

  • half-hourly between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly via Stafford / Crewe / Wilmslow - trains will not be able to call at Stoke-on-Trent or Macclesfield

  • buses will run between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent / Macclesfield, and between Wilmslow and Macclesfield to connect with train services

  • trains to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only.

Monday 26 August - August Bank Holiday

Engineering work will be taking place in the London Euston area, and in the Stoke-on-Trent / Macclesfield area. As a result, Avanti West Coast will be operating the following amended service (hourly unless stated)

  • between London Euston and Birmingham New Street

  • between London Euston and Blackpool North / Preston / Scotland (via Birmingham)

  • between London Euston and Glasgow Central

  • between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street

  • half-hourly between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly via Stafford / Crewe / Wilmslow - trains will not be able to call at Stoke-on-Trent or Macclesfield

  • buses will run between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent / Macclesfield, and between Wilmslow and Macclesfield to connect with train services

  • trains to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only.

Due to midweek late evening engineering work at several locations, the following changes will be made:

  • 18:52 Edinburgh to London Euston service will not call at Northampton. A replacement bus service will run between Rugby, Long Buckby and Northampton.

  • 22:00 London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street service will terminate at Crewe. A replacement bus (to be confirmed) is expected to run between Crewe, Runcorn and Liverpool Lime Street.

  • 22:03 London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service will be diverted via Alsager, Crewe and Wilmslow. This service will not call at Macclesfield and Stockport. A replacement bus service (to be confirmed) is expected to run between Stoke-on-Trent, Macclesfield and Stockport.
