Thursday 24 December - Christmas Eve
Changes to services at Birmingham New Street
Major engineering work will be taking place to upgrade the overhead power lines. As a result there will be no trains all day at Birmingham New Street.
Avanti West Coast trains will run to an amended timetable and will be unable to call at Birmingham New Street. Replacement buses will be provided between:
Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton
Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International
Change to last service of the day from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly
Due to engineering work starting in the evening at Stockport, the last direct service from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly will be the 18:33 departure.
The 18:53 London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, will run as far as Stockport, with a connecting rail replacement bus service to Manchester Piccadilly.
Friday 25 December - Christmas Day
No service
No trains will operate on Christmas Day.
Saturday 26 December
No service
No Avanti West Coast trains will operate on Saturday 26 December.
Sunday 27 December
Reduced service to and from London Euston due to diverted trains
Due to major engineering work over the Christmas and New Year period, some Great Western Railway services will be diverting to run to and from London Euston instead of London Paddington.
To accommodate the increased number of trains arriving and departing London Euston, Avanti West Coast services will run to an amended and reduced timetable.
Additionally, services between London Euston and Holyhead will only run between Wolverhampton / Crewe and Holyhead.

Due to engineering work between Rugby and Northampton, the 18:52 Edinburgh to London Euston service will divert between Rugby and Milton Keynes Central, not calling at Northampton. A bus will run from Rugby to Long Buckby / Northampton, departing at 23:55.

Due to engineering work, the 18:52 Edinburgh to London Euston service will terminate at Preston.
Friday 1 January 2027 - New Year's Day
Reduced service to and from London Euston due to diverted trains
Due to major engineering work over the Christmas and New Year period, some Great Western Railway services will be diverting to run to and from London Euston instead of London Paddington.
To accommodate the increased number of trains arriving and departing London Euston, Avanti West Coast services will run to an amended and reduced timetable.
Additionally, services between London Euston and Holyhead will only run between Wolverhampton / Crewe and Holyhead.
Changes to services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh
Due to engineering work, no trains will run between Carlisle and Edinburgh all day. You can use your ticket at no extra cost between these stations on rail replacement buses provided by TransPennine Express.
Trains between Carlisle and Glasgow Central will not call at Motherwell due to the station being closed for the bank holiday.
Buses will replace trains between Preston and Lancaster until 13:45
Until 13:45, due to engineering work closing the lines between Preston and Lancaster, buses will be replacing trains between these stations.
Change to 20:05 Carlisle to London Euston service
Due to engineering work between Rugby and Northampton, the 20:05 Carlisle to London Euston service will divert between Rugby and Milton Keynes Central, not calling at Northampton. A bus will run from Rugby to Long Buckby / Northampton, departing at 23:55.
Saturday 2 January

Changes to services between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton until 16:20
Until approximately 16:20, due to engineering work closing the lines between Birmingham New Street and Smethwick Galton Bridge, trains that usually run between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton via Sandwell & Dudley will divert via an alternative route. This will significantly increase your journey time.
Additionally, the following services will be amended to start from Wolverhampton:
07:48 London Euston to Edinburgh
08:45 Birmingham New Street to Preston
09:43 Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston
Monday 4 January
Change to 05:35 Blackpool North to Crewe service
Due to early morning engineering work between Preston and Blackpool North, the 05:35 Avanti West Coast service from Blackpool North to Crewe will now start from Preston.
Change to the 23:00 and 23:30 London Euston to Wolverhampton services
Due to late night engineering work between Coventry and Birmingham New Street, the 23:00 and 23:30 London Euston to Wolverhampton services will divert via an alternative route, not calling at Coventry, Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street.
Rail replacement buses will run from Rugby to Coventry, Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street to help you complete your journey.
