Bank Holiday Information: Great Western Railway

Early May Bank Holiday:

Saturday 4 May

Due to engineering work between Reading and Guildford, buses will replace trains between Reading and Guildford.

Due to engineering work between Didcot Parkway and Oxford, the following changes will apply:

  • The 22:04 Banbury to Didcot Parkway service will terminate at Oxford. A replacement bus will run from Oxford to Didcot Parkway.

  • The 22:45 Didcot Parkway to Oxford service will not run, and will be replaced by a bus. The 23:20 Didcot Parkway to Oxford service will not run. You should travel by earlier or later services.

  • The 23:00 Oxford to London Paddington will start at Didcot Parkway later than usual. A replacement bus will run from Oxford at 23:05 to Didcot Parkway, connecting with the train.

  • The 22:50 and 23:33 London Paddington to Oxford services will terminate at Didcot Parkway.

Sunday 5 May

Due to engineering work between Reading and Guildford, buses will replace trains between Reading and Guildford.

Due to engineering work between London Paddington and Maidenhead, the following changes will apply:

  • The 06:38 London Paddington to Reading service will start from Maidenhead. An earlier replacement bus will run from London Paddington to Maidenhead, to connect with the train.

  • High Speed services will be amended to run up to 13 minutes earlier or later than usual. These services will additionally call at Slough, Maidenhead and Twyford.

  • Most trains between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway will run between Reading and Didcot Parkway only.

Monday 6 May - Early May Bank Holiday

Due to early morning engineering work between Reading and Guildford, the following changes will apply:

  • The 06:27 Reading to Gatwick Airport will start earlier than usual at 06:17, and will call additionally at Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Farnborough North, Ash, Shalford, Chilworth, Gomshall, Dorking West and Betchworth. It will terminate Redhill. Rail connections are available between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.

  • The 06:51 Reading to Redhill will not run. Customers are advised to travel by earlier or later services.

  • The 07:20 Reading to Gatwick Airport will call additionally at Chilworth and Dorking West.

  • The 07:59 Gatwick Airport to Reading will start from Redhill at 08:12. An earlier rail service will run between Gatwick Airport and Redhill to connect with the train.

Late May Bank Holiday:

Saturday 25 May

Due to very early morning engineering work (at the end of Friday's service) between West Drayton and Maidenhead, the following trains will not call at Burnham or Taplow:

  • 00:02 London Paddington to Reading

  • 00:18 Reading to London Paddington

  • 00:45 London Paddington to Reading

Replacement buses will run between Slough and Burnham / Taplow, connecting with train services.

Sunday 26 May

No changes to train services have been announced.

Monday 27 May - Late May Bank Holiday

Services on some routes may run to an amended timetable due to the Late May (Spring) Bank Holiday. Changes will also be made due to the engineering work listed below:

Due to early morning engineering work between Westbury and Castle Cary, the following changes will be made:

  • 06:12 Frome to London Paddington service will start from Westbury at 06:23. From Frome, you should travel by later services.

  • 06:18 Yeovil Pen Mill to Filton Abbey Wood service will start from Westbury at 07:18. For Castle Cary / Frome, you should use earlier or later services. For Bruton, you should use later services.

Due to late evening engineering work between Oxford and Evesham, the following changes will be made:

  • 21:53 London Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill will call additionally at Didcot Parkway, and will then divert to run via Swindon / Cheltenham Spa (not calling) to Worcester Shrub Hill. A rail connection will run from Didcot Parkway to Oxford, and a replacement bus will run from Oxford to Worcester Shrub Hill.

  • 22:00 Hereford to London Paddington service will terminate at Worcester Shrub Hill, and restart at Oxford. A fast bus will run from Worcester Shrub Hill to Oxford to connect with the train. A stopping bus will run from Worcester Shrub Hill to Oxford, not connecting with the train.

  • 22:51 London Paddington to Worcestershire Parkway service will terminate at Oxford. A replacement bus will run from Oxford to Worcestershire Parkway.

Due to late evening engineering work between Reading and Bedwyn, the following changes will be made:

  • 21:16 Bedwyn to Newbury service will run from Bedwyn to Reading.

  • 22:08 Newbury to Reading service will be retimed to start earlier at 21:48, and will not call at Newbury Racecourse, Midgham or Aldermaston. A replacement bus will run from Newbury at 22:08 to Reading, calling at all stations.

  • After 21:50 each night, buses will replace trains between Reading and Newbury / Bedwyn.
