Easter Bank Holiday Travel Advice

Friday 3 April - Good Friday

Reduced service to and from London Waterloo

Due to engineering work in the London Waterloo area, some train services will be unable to run between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction in either direction. Trains on the following routes will start forward from, and terminate at Clapham Junction (or at other stations if stated):

  • London Waterloo - Reading

  • London Waterloo - Weybridge via Staines

  • London Waterloo - Windsor & Eton Riverside

  • London Waterloo Circular services via Richmond and Wimbledon

  • London Waterloo - Salisbury (start forward from, and terminate at Basingstoke)

  • London Waterloo - Basingstoke 'stopping' services and London Waterloo - Alton services will run combined to Woking where the train will divide. These services will call additionally at West Byfleet


South Western Railway services on their other routes will be able to run between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction and beyond in both directions.

Changes to services through Eastleigh

Due to engineering work closing the lines between Winchester, Eastleigh and St Denys, trains will be unable to run between these stations. Trains that normally run on this line may be diverted, amended or cancelled.

Buses will be replacing trains between the following stations:

  • Winchester and Southampton Central

  • Winchester and Fareham

  • Romsey and Southampton Central via Eastleigh

Buses will replace trains between Honiton / Exeter St Davids and Yeovil Junction

Due to engineering work closing the lines all day between Honiton and Yeovil Junction, the following service changes will be made:

  • Between 08:10 and 18:15: An amended train service will run between Exeter St Davids and Honiton. Buses will replace trains between Honiton and Yeovil Junction

  • Before 08:10 and after 18:15: Buses will replace trains between Exeter St Davids and Yeovil Junction

No trains will call at Queenstown Road (Battersea)

Due to engineering work, no trains will stop at Queenstown Road (Battersea) station all day. You can use your ticket at no extra cost on London Buses / London Underground to get to and from Queenstown Road (Battersea).

After 18:00: Buses will be replacing trains between Westbury and Castle Cary

Due to late evening engineering work, buses will replace trains between Westbury and Castle Cary.

Saturday 4 April

Reduced service to and from London Waterloo

Sunday 5 April

Amended service on some routes to and from London Waterloo

Due to engineering work in the London Waterloo area, some train services will be diverted via an alternative route or will be unable to run to and from London Waterloo. Trains on the following routes will be amended:

  • London Waterloo - Reading services will be retimed and will be diverted via Kingston. Trains will call additionally at Wimbledon, Kingston and Strawberry Hill

  • London Waterloo - Windsor & Eton Riverside services will either start forward from, and terminate at Barnes, and will then run on their usual route. Or will be diverted via Kingston, calling additionally at Earlsfield, Wimbledon, Raynes Park, New Malden, Norbiton, Kingston, Hampton Wick, Teddington, and Strawberry Hill

  • London Waterloo Circular services via Richmond and Wimbledon will start at Kingston and terminate at Barnes, and vice versa

  • London Waterloo - Hampton Court services will be reduced to run hourly

  • London Waterloo - Woking via Staines services will start forward from, and terminate at Barnes

  • London Waterloo - Kingston via Twickenham services will start forward from, and terminate at Barnes

  • Replacement buses will run between Barnes and Clapham Junction in both directions


South Western Railway services on their other routes will be able to run to and from London Waterloo.

Due to engineering work closing the lines between Winchester, Eastleigh and St Denys, trains will be unable to run between these stations. Trains that normally run on this line may be diverted, amended or cancelled.

Buses will be replacing trains between Clapham Junction and Barnes

Due to engineering work, buses will be replacing trains all day in both directions between Clapham Junction and Barnes.

Changes to services between Basingstoke and Southampton Central

Due to engineering work closing the lines between Basingstoke and Winchester, the following service changes will be made:

  • London Waterloo - Weymouth: Trains will be re-timed and diverted via Guildford, calling additionally at Guildford, Havant and Fareham

  • London Waterloo - Portsmouth Harbour: Trains will run between London Waterloo and Basingstoke

  • London Waterloo - Poole: Trains will run between Southampton Central and Poole

  • Poole - Eastleigh: Trains will terminate at Southampton Central

  • Romsey - Salisbury: Trains will run between Southampton Central and Salisbury

  • Southampton Central - Portsmouth & Southsea via Netley and Fareham: Trains will run throughout

  • Eastleigh - Portsmouth Harbour via Fareham: Trains will not run



Buses will replace trains between:

  • Basingstoke and Southampton Central

  • Basingstoke and Fareham via Eastleigh

  • Romsey and Southampton Central via Eastleigh

Buses will be replacing trains between Guildford and Surbiton / Leatherhead

Due to engineering work, buses will be replacing trains all day between Guildford and Surbiton, and between Guildford and Leatherhead.

Monday 4 May - Early May Bank Holiday

Amended South Western Railway service on Early May Bank Holiday Monday

As a result of the Bank Holiday, a Saturday level of service will operate on Monday 4 May, but with an amended service later in the day.
