May Bank Holidays

Welcome to the National Rail travel advice summary for the May Bank Holiday weekends

Travelling in May? Be in the know before you go

Early May Bank Holiday weekend runs from Saturday 4 May to Monday 6 May 2024.

Late May (or Spring) Bank Holiday weekend runs from Saturday 25 May to Monday 27 May 2024.

Some train services are affected during bank holiday weekends as we work to improve the railway. Some train companies will also be making changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.

So be in the know before you go. Please check before you travel and use the Journey Planner to see if your journey is affected and find alternative routes.

Please note though that this information is subject to change as timetables are still being finalised, please check before you travel. Please check our Status and Disruptions pages for up to date real time information.

Improvement work on your railway during the Bank Holiday weekends

A considerable number of engineering and improvement projects will be undertaken during the two May Bank Holiday weekends. The impact of this work will be reflected in Journey Planners.

But, for more information on the work taking place, you can find details of all forthcoming engineering works on our website.
