Description

Major engineering work is taking place between Potters Bar and Biggleswade, closing all lines (project background information can be found below).

Grand Central:

A severely reduced train service will run between Sunderland and Peterborough.

Replacement buses will run between London Kings Cross and Peterborough, connecting with train services.

Great Northern and Thameslink:

Saturday 25 January:

No trains will run between London Kings Cross / London St Pancras International / Moorgate and Peterborough; and no trains will run between London Kings Cross / London St Pancras International / Moorgate and Royston.

A shuttle train service will run between Royston and Ely / Kings Lynn.

Replacement bus services will run between:

  • Bedford and Peterborough via St Neots

  • Hitchin and Peterborough

  • Hitchin and Royston

  • Finsbury Park and Stevenage via Hertford North

  • St Albans City and Stevenage via Welwyn Garden City

  • Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage via Hitchin

  • Finsbury Park and Welwyn Garden City

Ticket Acceptance:

Your tickets will be accepted on Thameslink services between London stations and Bedford, and on Greater Anglia services between London Liverpool Street and Hertford East / Cambridge North.

Paper rail tickets will be accepted on Elizabeth line services between London Liverpool Street and Farringdon, and on Transport for London Buses and London Underground between:

  • Kings Cross St Pancras and Tottenham Hale / Liverpool Street

  • Moorgate and High Barnet

Sunday 26 January:

No trains will run between London Kings Cross / London St Pancras International / Moorgate and Letchworth Garden City.

From the start of service until approximately 20:00, no trains will run between London Kings Cross / London St Pancras International and Peterborough; and no trains will run between London Kings Cross / London St Pancras International and St Neots.

A shuttle train service will run between Letchworth Garden City and Ely / Kings Lynn. After approximately 20:00, a shuttle train service will run between St Neots and Peterborough.

Replacement bus services will run between:

  • Bedford and Peterborough via St Neots

  • Hitchin and Peterborough until 20:00, and then between Hitchin and St Neots after 20:00

  • Letchworth Garden City and Hitchin

  • Finsbury Park and Stevenage via Hertford North

  • St Albans City and Stevenage via Welwyn Garden City

  • Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage via Hitchin

  • Finsbury Park and Welwyn Garden City

Please note: On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January, Great Northern and Thameslink replacement buses from Finsbury Park will depart from bus stop L, located on Seven Sisters Road, adjacent to the southern entrance of the park.

Hull Trains:

A reduced service will operate into / out of London St Pancras International. As a result of this trains will not call at Beverley / Cottingham / Doncaster / Retford / Grantham or Stevenage.

LNER:

No trains will run between Peterborough and London Kings Cross. An amended and reduced LNER train service will start and terminate at Peterborough, where rail replacement coaches will operate to Bedford for train services to London St Pancras International.

If you're travelling from London: LNER advise using Thameslink services between London St Pancras International and Bedford and join a rail replacement coach service to Peterborough. It will then be possible to join northbound LNER services towards Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness.

Travelling to London from the north: LNER advise travelling on a southbound LNER service to Peterborough and join a rail replacement coach service to Bedford. From Bedford, frequent Thameslink trains operate to London St Pancras International.

Lumo:

An amended and severely reduced train service will run between Newcastle and Edinburgh. A train will run between Peterborough and Edinburgh in both directions, with replacement buses running between London Kings Cross and Peterborough, connecting with the train service.

Background information on this project:

During the weekend of 25 and 26 January vital improvements are being made to the track, drainage and overhead lines which power trains.

Preparatory work is also taking place as part of the East Coast Digital Programme which will deliver more reliable, greener journeys through the introduction of in-cab digital signalling.
