South Western Railway between Southampton Central and Woking, and also between Southampton Central / Portsmouth Harbour / Portsmouth & Southsea / Fareham and London Waterloo
Description
A points failure between Fratton and Havant means some lines are blocked. Trains running between Portsmouth Harbour and Havant may be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or diverted.
Disruption is expected until 22:00.
A visual disruption map video is now available.
Southern customer advice:
A points failure is blocking the line from Fratton towards Havant.
Because services are unable to depart from the Fratton area, Southern can't send further trains towards Portsmouth, so this means services are now affected in both directions to and from Portsmouth.
We expect the following to take place:
Trains which are already in the area will be delayed, and when they get moving, they may have ad hoc changes at short notice. This means they may not stop at all the usual stations, and others may not complete their full journeys.
Further trains which would usually run from London Victoria towards the Portsmouth area will be diverted after they leave Barnham, and will run to Bognor Regis instead. They will return back to London from there.
Further trains which would usually run from Brighton towards the Portsmouth area will finish their journeys earlier than usual, at Chichester or Havant, and they will return back to Brighton from there.
Alternative route options:
The above alterations mean that you will need to change trains and use alternative services if you are travelling between Havant, Fratton and the Portsmouth area.
Trains will still run on the route between Brighton and Southampton Central, and you can change at Cosham for alternative South Western Railway and Great Western Railway services between Cosham, Fratton and Portsmouth, even though there are delays on that route.
The same will apply in the other direction.
It's recommend you leave at least 30 minutes of extra time to do this, but you can use your ticket on this alternative route at no extra cost.
You can also use your rail ticket for this area at no extra cost on:
First Bus Route 1 between Portsmouth Harbour, Portsmouth City Centre and Fratton
First Bus Routes 2, 3, 7 and 8 between Cosham, Hilsea and Portsmouth stations
Direct South Western Railway services which run between Fratton and Havant are also affected by the same points failure.
