Southern customer advice:
A points failure means that Southern services that run between Brighton and Southampton Central will run between Brighton and Bognor Regis only.
For journeys between Brighton and Southampton, you will need to change trains in order to complete your journey en route at Fratton, using South Western Railway and Great Western Railway services between Portsmouth / Fratton and Southampton. Journeys will take around 20-30 minutes longer than usual, so please allow plenty of extra time.
For journeys between Brighton / the coast and west of Southampton - i.e. Salisbury, Bournemouth, South Wales or the West Country, Southern advise travelling via London instead. Ticket restrictions have been relaxed to allow for this.
Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on the following:
Great Western Railway services between Southampton and Portsmouth
South Western Railway services between Southampton and Portsmouth, and also between Southampton / Portsmouth and Clapham Junction / London Waterloo
Southern services between London Victoria / Clapham Junction and the coast
Thameslink between London and Brighton (including via Farringdon for the Elizabeth line to / from London Paddington)
London Underground between London Terminals
Elizabeth line services between Farringdon and London Paddington

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A points failure is affecting the route between Havant and Cosham / Southampton. Points are moveable sections of track that guide trains onto different routes at junctions. If they develop a fault due to obstructions, electronic failures or other issues, trains cannot safely pass.
Network Rail teams are on site and investigating the issue. At present, the points have been set to allow trains to run between Portsmouth and Southampton, but cannot be used to run trains between Barnham/Havant and Southampton. As such, Southern services that normally run between Brighton and Southampton will run between Brighton and Bognor Regis instead. Work to rectify the issue will be carried out overnight tonight.
Check before you travel:

Compensation:
You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
