Description

There will be lots of planned essential engineering works and upgrades taking place during the Late May (Spring) Bank Holiday weekend as Network Rail works to improve the railway. Network Rail carry out essential improvement and engineering work across the rail network during this time as fewer people usually travel by train.

In addition, some train companies will be making changes to their timetable, and to some train times, to match services to the number of customers travelling.

If you are travelling during the Late May Bank Holiday weekend, please check your journey before you travel to avoid any disappointments. You may find our Travel Summary useful, it contains lots of useful advice to help you be in the know before you go.

During the Late May Bank Holiday weekend major engineering work will be taking place at the following locations:

London St Pancras International to London Blackfriars: No Thameslink trains will run through central London from Saturday 23 May until Monday 25 May inclusive. Thameslink services will be significantly altered as a result. Improvements to signalling and telecommunications equipment will be undertaken.

York to Darlington: The East Coast Main Line will be closed between York and Northallerton from Saturday 23 May to Monday 25 May inclusive. As a result, your journey is likely to involve using rail replacement transport if travelling between York and Darlington. Work continues on rebuilding a junction at Tollerton, 10 miles north of York.

Bristol Parkway to Newport: Work gets underway on Saturday 23 May on a two-week programme of improvements to the Severn Tunnel’s power supply, and to the track around Patchway and Filton Abbey Wood. Buses will be replacing trains between Bristol Parkway and Newport, with one through train an hour between London and South Wales via Gloucester.

Other significant engineering work to and from East Grinstead / Uckfield, at Huddersfield, and at London Cannon Street may impact your Late May bank holiday journey plans.
