Can you tell me more about the incident?

Earlier this evening, Southern were told that a road vehicle had struck a railway bridge in the Netley area.

This meant that trains were stopped on all lines that travel under the bridge, so trains were unable to travel on this route. Network Rail have sent engineers who have checked for damage and since confirmed that the line is safe for trains to run on again as normal.

Southern take railway safety very seriously and need to make sure it's safe for services to run as planned.

If you see a vehicle hitting a bridge, or you think a bridge has been damaged, please report it using the phone number on the identification plate fixed to the bridge. If no plate is provided, please report it to the police by calling 999.
