between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central

Description

Damage to the overhead electric wires in the Trafford Park area mean that all lines between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central are blocked.

As a result, trains are currently unable to operate between these stations.

This is expected until 16:00.

Network Rail are on site and working to fix the problem.

East Midlands Railway customer advice:

Trains running through the area in both directions may be diverted between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street, not calling at Warrington Central, Widnes or Liverpool South Parkway.

In addition, trains running towards Nottingham / Norwich may be diverted between Stockport and Chesterfield, not calling at Sheffield.

At present, East Midlands Railway are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 2 hours. As soon as the problem is fixed, the priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. East Midlands Railway expect their advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 16:00.

How do I get where I need to be?

You should continue to travel as originally planned however your journey may be delayed by 60 minutes.

East Midlands Railway are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep you on the move. Please remember that this can take time and be assured that the team are working tirelessly to arrange this as quickly as possible for you.

You can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on Northern and TransPennine Express services between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street. Please be aware that these operators are also affected by this disruption.

Northern customer advice:

Train services are unable to run between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central (in both directions).

Services on the following routes will be affected by this disruption:

  • Between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central

  • Between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street

  • Between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North

  • Between Manchester Airport and Barrow-in-Furness / Windermere

Northern services between Southport and Stalybridge are not affected.

You can travel on the following operators and routes at no extra cost:

  • Bee Network services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

No trains can run between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central.

The following routes may be delayed, revised, or cancelled:

  • Between Cleethorpes and Liverpool Lime Street


Services may be diverted between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street via an alternative route.

Trains diverting via this alternative route will be unable to serve the following stations and may be delayed:

  • Urmston, Irlam, Birchwood, Warrington Central, Warrington West and Liverpool South Parkway

Due to the location of the problem, this is causing problems in the Manchester Oxford Road area. As a result, these routes are subject to delay / last minute alteration:

  • Edinburgh / Glasgow - Manchester Airport in both directions

  • Scarborough - Manchester Airport in both directions

Travelling between Sheffield and Manchester Stations in both directions:

  • CrossCountry and Northern services between Leeds and Sheffield

  • Northern services between Huddersfield and Sheffield

  • Northern services between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly

  • TransPennine Express services between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly

  • TransPennine Express services between Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly

You can use your train ticket at no extra cost on any Bee Network Bus Services in the Greater Manchester area.

Travelling between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly:

  • Metrolink tram services between Manchester Victoria / Manchester Piccadilly - Manchester Airport in both directions

  • Bee Network bus service number 43 between Manchester Piccadilly Gardens and Manchester Airport in both directions

Rail replacement transport has been requested to run from Manchester Piccadilly calling at:

  • Manchester Oxford Road

  • Urmston

  • Irlam

  • Birchwood

  • Warrington Central

  • Liverpool South Parkway

  • Liverpool Lime Street


Rail replacement transport has been requested to run from Liverpool Lime Street calling at:

  • Liverpool South Parkway

  • Warrington Central

  • Birchwood

  • Irlam

  • Urmston

  • Manchester Oxford Road

  • Manchester Piccadilly
